OK, I have a weird question:

-Would you want to have a spell-checker built into your IM software?

(I'm using software that does this, and just curious. Also, I can add in all the crazy IM lingo as I use this thing)

not really, IM is way too spontanious to go spellchecking and correcting every sentence.
i try to be neat but when i do make a typo screw it, not worth worrying about.

Yes, and if you're using OS X or Linux then it's already there.

Any native OS X application has access to the global spell checker, and the nifty control-click word thing to show spelling suggestions. Same thing goes for browsers and just about anything else. I can't live without it smile

On Linux there's the aspell library I believe which works with EveryBuddy and gaim and probably a few others.

Usually by the time I have spell-checked something, my would-be threats have become idle.

I'm trying to avoid use of spell checkers. I want to improve my spelling and I think paper dictionaries do a better job of making me remember. If the spell checker was built in to the software and pinged when it didn't recognize a word that'd be cool.

A spell checker once suggested "Mortimer" for the word "Showtime." I don't care for them anymore.

Good point, this one does it on the fly -- it seems Trevor uses it that way, too.

A speel checker once suggested 'tampon' as a replacement for my surname. NOW do you see why I hate the things?
