It seems almost redundant to say this but Mike Leigh has once again created an amazing film. It’s called Vera Drake and it takes place in 1950’s London. Vera Drake lives in a small flat with her husband Stan, and their grown-up son and daughter, Sid and Ethel. The family is not rich, but their combined incomes make for a reasonable life. Vera is a cleaner, Stan a mechanic in his brother's Frank's garage, and Ethel works in a light-bulb factory. Sid is an apprentice tailor. The Drakes have something...

God, I can't wait to see it. Mike Leigh is one of my favorite directors on the planet.

Edit: For god's sake, when is Secrets & Lies coming out on DVD?

Judging by the fact that we seem to be the only two really excited about this interview, I'd say it might be a while. :/ Dammit.

i finally have a chance to comment on this; good interview, i wish you would've gotten to have more time with him for something more in depth. still haven't caught this picture, looks like i may have to wait for the dvd. leigh's films have a way of looking at the aspects of humanity in a very different way than other filmmakers- i admire his work greatly. interesting point about how the actors never seem to be searching for words, i never thought of that. i've made a couple of short films in a similiar fashion to his, the first about 13 years ago well before i'd ever become aware of his work. i dunno, it seems that if actors know the intent of the scene and the things they're meant to get across they find the words to do so in their persona (but it helps to have good talent and mutual trust on both sides of the camera). once again, good read.

I only just found this interview and I don't care if it if more than three years old, I will stop and read every word that has ever come from the mouthes of great men like Mike Leigh and Ken Loach.
