Its amazing, John Kricfalusi and I only spoke for 20 minutes but yet he was able to glean that I am a fat bloated idiot.
Actually he only ended up calling me that when he went into the character of Ren. Im sure all of you animation freaks know that not only are new episodes of Ren & Stimpy airing on SpikeTV but that the first two seasons of the original show are being released on DVD today, October 12th. In fact John Kricfalusi himself will be at the Virgin Megastore on Sunset and Crescent Heights...
He, like Ralph Bakshi, has a tremendously over-inflated sense of his own importance to his genre, but at the same time, I want to like and respect him for what he's done for cartooning...
But they're both such overblown ego cases about it. HARRUMPH.
I think it's ironic that he talks about how much better older cartoons are (which is largely true) but then both talks up his NEW Ren & Stimpy cartoons (which, unsurprisingly, don't hold a candle to the old ones) and also admits that he doesn't watch new cartoons.
Especially ironic is his constant lambasting of South Park, despite the fact that it does pretty much everything that he bitches about modern cartoons not doing.
Despite it all, though, I hope he gets at least another season on Spike. Maybe, since he claims it has started to "click" again (I don't see it, personally) that just a little later on it will be back in full swing.
I prefer the older R&S as back then you didn't think they were a homosexual couple, but with the new ones they are blantantly homosexual...not that I have anything against homosexuals or homosexual couples/relationships, but R&S were just better without all the homosexual stuff.
I do, however, totally appreciate homosexual women and homosexual women couples/relationships

I'm not torn about Alex Ross, he is a gigantic, walking, talking cock, and pray to god you never have to meet him in person because he's like a living Seinfeld character.
Yeah. I'm not really torn about Ross, I shouldn't have quoted that bit. I just like his paintings, and the respectability he brings to the genre. Yet... Giant Assbite.
Sweet! I just pciked up those DVDs today. I can finally retire those VHS tapes I spent around 8 hours taping off of MTV. I actually sat in from of the TV and manually removed the commercials. My brain just about melted from all that Ren and Stimpy. I think I might have scared some of my family that day. :-)
I think his beef with South Park probably has more to do with the craft of cartooning than the sense of humor. I like South Park, but as animation goes, it's kinda shitty.
Also, the gay stuff was always there. Scared the hell out of my sheltered teenage ass all those years ago, and I think I'm better for it.

I think that a soundbite of him saying, "You fat bloated idiot. Dont ask me again, Ill kill you. You fat little faggot" needs to be posted!
i've been waiting for years for uncut episodes to be put on dvd. it's about damn time. and as much as i like the idea that spike has been letting him do new episodes for them, they're a pain in the ass to watch because they stick an unusually large amount of commercials in each episode. maybe ten minutes of it is cartoon, the other 20 is repeated commercials for other crap tv shows on spike.
That's actually the reason I gave up on Spike. Their advertising is horrendous. I really enjoyed Stripperella and Gary the Rat (but, like I said, not so much the new R&S) but when you see two commercials in the same break FOR THE VERY FUCKING SHOW THAT YOU ARE PRESENTLY WATCHING it gets intensely grating, as denoted by the all-caps.
If you read on reviews of this dvd, everyone gives it one star for NOT being uncut. In fact as far as I can tell all the episodes come from spike tv and are severly edited. Not many people who bought this had anything good to say about it . Shame i was this close to going ahead and buying it. At least I have them on vhs...The interview was cool though, II wish such cerativity wasn't stiffled but lame conservatism and blatant censorship....
I have posted the cuts that I and the 13th Sinner found in my journal .
Since I have all the cut pieces, I will be making a homemade dvd for the obsessive collector. as an obsessive collector, I can say that most of the cuts are no big deal, and you got more restored than they took away.
it's got tons of great information about classic cartoons and how cartoons should be made now. john k's a bitter driven man, and it's awesome! gives other cartoonists like me some hope for the future, and drive to change things for the better too!
