And to go along with it, there's the Illustrated Gravity's Rainbow. Super cool.

"That Hideous Strength" is a very weird C.S. Lewis book.

But then, it is the third one in a sort of connected trilogy.

And of course it has loads of Christianity thrown into it.

If you like psychology/twisted stuff at all, you will LOVE this book. I've read it three times. It starts off a wee bit slow, but it really picks up and grabs you a few chapters into it. It's a very easy read, even if you aren't familiar with psychological terms or either psychoanalyst.

Jung and Freud join forces to redeem a young woman from madness in a story of love, betrayal, and the mysteries of the human psyche that blends the eroticism at the core of psychoanalysis with the speculations of ancient history.

I don't believe the patient in the story was a real patient of theirs. I believe this falls under historical fiction.

I recommend Experience, Martin Amis' memoir. It's great in every way a book can be great, and seeing as you like Oates and Vonnegut I think you'll dig Amis.

If you're feeling more like fiction, then anything by Peter Carey is great. My favourite is probably Oscar and Lucinda, though I'm a huge of his short stories and have read the collection of them several times over.
