My friend wants to be Rufio (hook) for halloween, problem is there arent any good pictures of him in his battle armor on the internet. Need a picture to take into the costume shop.

So I figured I could pop the dvd into my computer and take a screen shot.

problem is the screenshot just shows a black screen.

I dont have a digital camera, so I need to find a way to get the image to stay.

Any help would be greatly appreciater.

pause it on what you want and hit your 'print screen' key, then open paint and click 'edit', then click 'paste'

Not that easy, it still does the whole black screen thing when the dvd player closes.

My pc does that too, and I've never figured out a way to fix it. If I take a screenie of anything on RealPlayer or Windows Media Player and try to paste it in Photoshop or anything else, it comes up blank in the spot the movie was. If anyone can help with this problem, I'd be interested to know as well.

Buy a Macintosh.

*ducks*

Try this or one of these. I have no idea if any of these will work though.

i dunno about windows, but apple's screen grab won't work while a dvd is playing. however, many third party grab software will. just go to a shareware site and find one.

On a mac, the command line app 'screencapture' works fine for me.

This is probably caused by the overlay mode your video player is using. Screenshots are notoriously difficult when using hardware overlay; if you have the option, try switching to DirectX rendering.

You may want to check out some screenshot utilities and see if any of them help. There's a decent list here to get you started.

Intervideo WinDVD has screencap. I'm not sure about others.
