NEWS: Mount St. Helens Experiencing More Tremors

They could throw a nuke into it. That's worked in several movies I've seen lately...

I would think that you could almost 'vent' a volcano premeturly with smaller explosives... it make a 'trench' to vent the lava in into either a valley... or large body of water.

/shrugs/ I'm not a geologist, so no clue how feasible it is to start popping things off in/around a active one.

used to have a pretty decent view of mt st helens from my back porch. i wish i was there to see the show.

Ok, I'm officially sick of hearing the mountain described as "burping." What comes after burp? What are all the TV news people going to say when there's a BIG eruption? "Mt. St. Helens is puking!"

I am old enough, and was close enough (2 hr drive away) to really experience, the hysteria of the eruption more than 20 years ago. What worries me the most is we don't have any crotchety, old codgers like Harry Truman (a local antediluvian, not the straight-shooting president), who would rather go up in a huge cloud of ash than be bothered by some park ranger telling him what to do. Damn it, we just lack that kind of unyielding obstinance.
