Wait, the seventh is out? Shit. I really need to get around to reading numbers five and six then. I re-read the first four a few months ago, in preparation for reading number five, but then forgot about it. D'oh.
Awesome series though.

i guess it's not a spoiler in as much as we all knew he'd find something at the top. just because old trucker_fiction is disappointed doesn't mean i will be, or any of you.

by the way, i'm at the point where they are just about to attack blue heaven. i'll never check this post again until i'm done. it's a great book.

We knew he was going to find something at the top, but a monkey throwing barrels? Now that was a surprise.

I'm about half way through the Wolves of Calla book. It got off to a good start but nowwww ittttsss sllllloooooooowing down. No one can get as bogged down as King. For the first few books it seemed like he really had a central all encompassing outlook or plot or idea for the series but now it seems like he's just throwing everything in to cover his ass. Seems like I heard that once he finished the Dark Tower series that he was retiring... anyone hear that?

I was desperately hoping this thread concerned Dark Tower, the classic Milton Bradley board game...

Can you sum the series up for those who wouldn't be caught dead reading a Dark Tower book?

I thought it was a totally spoiler, because we were never even assured that Roland would make it to the Tower. SK makes it clear earlier that he might not, that Roland might even die along the way.

Fortunately, I figured this thread would be rife with spoilers, and didn't read it until I finished the book, just now.

Nope. I was dissapointed by a few things in the book, specifically the fates of a few of the major villians who basically all went out like punks (like the Tick Tock man, tell you the truth). I think that their passing should have been epic. I mean, look at how much time was given to the fine art of cold weather survivle and deer skinning as opposed to how much time the Walter and Mordred get when they get their Come Uppance. That should have been ballanced better.

But the ending was just fine. Its over and yet the quest goes on. Its futile and yet there is hope. I wish he hadden't given us the narritive nonsence: "You might not want to read the rest . . . (I paid for the whole book, goddamnit, Im reading the motherfucker til its done). But the ending itself was fine, actually not the cop-out I expected. What more could you ask for?

be well,

why would we bother? anyone who wouldn't be caught dead reading it is obviously an idiot. tongue

I wasn't disappointed, trucker....but about 60 pages in, I guessed how it was going to end, so I had a while to come to terms with it before I got there. I thought it was...poetic. and...now I'll have to take it to email so we don't ruin it for anyone else.

He released 5, 6, and 7 in the last year. I think he was busy writing something else and when he went to scratch his ass he got a paper cut on his knuckle and realized that what he was sitting on wasn't a chair at all but the three manuscripts that would conclude the Dark Tower series that he'd totally forgotten about when that minivan creamed him a few years back.

I pity King fans: all three books are still in hardcover at $50 (Canadian) a pop.

Funny.. I have the first six in softcover.. though I am in the states.
I'm not going to read the seventh until I can get it in soft, it wouldn't quite fit in with the others on my shelf wink

I re-read 1 and 2 in the last few days and I'm working on 3 at the moment.
