i've known for quite some time that christophe gans ("brotherhood of the wolf") would be directing next year's "silent hill" movie. however, i just read today that roger avary ("pulp fiction', 'the rules of attraction") will be writing it. could this be the first truly decent video game movie yet?

edit: read about it in roger avary's blog

Avary's not the first name I would associate with the film, but who knows. At least he's actually playing the games.

This might be a crazy idea, and it could be the alcohol talking...but instead of "writing" movies based on video games, why not just follow the games exactly ? I think it would be interesting to see real actors actually say and do the things that we did with a video game controller..

*shrugs* Just a thought....

Silent Hill could be the first good video game movie because it actually has a fucking STORY to it (that isn't the conoluted crap-fest of the Resident Evil games).

Here's hoping...

It doesn't sound at all like the alcohol talking...

It does, however, sound like you just smoked a shitload of weed.

now i know this is the alcohol talking, but......

i think they should make the movie based literally off the title.

a spooky movie about a hill where sound doesn't travel. so nothing can be heard.

silent hill 2 would involve a second hill of this nature being found.

eerie i say. eerie.

It'd be novel, but the people who the movie would be directed act will be able to predict everything and that's boring. Also, they'll complain about minor changes or missing scenes. I'd rather see a new story that's true to the series.

Yeah, I guess you're right...but I still dislike how the movies have little or nothing do with the games except for the titles...

Not that I'm arguing with your assessment of the Resident Evil plots (although, both films are guilty, guilty pleasures of mine), but I seem to remember the plots to the first two Silent Hill games as being far worse. They're kind of cool at first, but become extremely convoluted along the way, until the finales, which make no sense at all. Hell, in the second one, they didn't even try to explain half the things you encountered, they're just chalked up to an overall creepiness.

And I get pissed, because people always forget The Super Mario Bros movie and The Wizard. I dare you to name better movies, Mr. Imreplyingtomanymonthsago

I don't care what the movie was about as long as it rules.

I'm partial to Heather myself.
But any of the storylines would be fabulous.

On a related video game movie note: is it sad that i was super excited to find Super Mario Bros. on sale for $5 at Walmart not too long ago. I always loved the sticky mushroom shit growing everywhere.

Hey, first. I LIKED MORTAL COMBAT.

Second, I heard David Boreanaz is going to be in it. I can only play SH for small amounts of time at a time. I'm a pussy.

I like heather too.

I did like that film... however i probably havent seen it in about 10 years.

And i'm sure i saw mortal kombat the movie again in the summer and found it to be perfectly watchable.

As for the resident evil movies... i saw the first one, and didnt actually mind it. I've played all the games... and fair enough... its nothing like them really but meh... watchable.

This silent hill project sounds interesting.. i just hope they build a sense of foreboding rather than just the loud noise deafen + scare the shit out of you shock fest they usually go for these days.

Yeah, Christopher Lambert was sooo convincing in the role of a japanese thunder god tongue

Though I did like the Johnny cage/Scorpion fight - mainly because Fear factory was playing in the background!
