Following the recent success of movies like Resident Evil, another video game franchise is about to explode onto the silver screen.

ID Software and Activision's "Doom" is set to become a big screen movie.

Karl Urban is up for the lead role of John Grimm, and Universal Pictures is in talks with Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. "The Rock") regarding a possible supporting role.

I remember when they said they were going to do this in, um, 1994.

Not mocking you, just pointing out how long it's been in DEVELOPMENT HELL!!!

Oh puns, delicious and no carbs.

As long as they don't start with the mean spirited elitist cliquiness, I'm sure no one will come off as hypocritial.

Doom might be good as an experimental movie, but a Hollywood film will bear resemblence in name only. Doom has no story, nor should it.

Has any game-movie been good?

Tomb-raider the movie was better than the game, but then I thought the games sucked.

That Mario movie made the baby Jeebus cry.

The Final Fantasy movie could have been great, but was kind of souless.

The resident evil movie was enjoyable nonsense. I only pay £1.50 to rent DVDs, which helps.

I can't see this being great; there's not going to be much plot or character development or stuff, eh?

Uh, I think you left out one of the most successful video game to movie adaptations ever, Citizen Kane.
