My wisdom teeth are really bothering me and I am waiting to hear back from my insurance company on coverage, I don't think it'll happen....

So, I have resorted to using Anbesol. It makes me drool.

Local anesthetics rock.

When did you have your wisdom teeth out?

I had mine out four years ago. If the dental assistant tells you to "smoke on the other side of your mouth" don't listen. It causes dry socket. blackeyed

Anbesol is good stuff, very useful.

I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 13, I guess that's early but mine were impacted and so had to be surgically removed. Sucked that day but overall wasn't too bad of an experience. They just loaded me up with meds and gave me a vicodin prescription.

Don't skimp on pain killers, take them as much as you need to. People in pain tend to heal more slowly, plus it'll make your life miserable.

Dry socket is when the hole in your gum isn't plugged up with a huge scab (aka "plug of blood") and your jaw bone is exposed to air. It hurts so bad even two Percocets won't put a dent in the agony. It's the reason you're not suposed to smoke, use straws, suck hard candy, and so forth after the yank the teeth.

Dry socket is really awful. Follow the aftercare instructions to the letter and go back if the pain seems unmanageable. The only way to make it feel better is to have the hole packed with medicated gauze.

i had 4 of mine out in 2000. one was impacted and there was a lot of drilling but i didn't feel it.

advice: if you get it done they will probably give you an RX for a pain killer and an RX of antibiotics to stave off infection. See if you can get these ahead of time so you dont have to mess around and have them filled on the same day. unless you have someone that will get them for you. i didnt and i had to go into the pharmacy myself.. with my mouth full of cotton.. and when i tried to talk i bled everywhere. it sucked. i was away from home at the time.

other than that.. just like Clara said...follow the after care instructions and you will be fine. smile

Mine came in when I was 16, and I had them plucked from my skull while I was under general anesthesia piece of cake except the stitches came out.

Dry socket is no joke, if you jaw gets infected it can spread through out your skull and that would be bad. I however have yet to see this kind of an infection but it has to be worse than any abcessed tooth I have ever seen and they can invade your sinus cavities and that seriously sucks. On the lighter side antibiotics work use all of them!

We used to rub Baby Anbesol on the dog's tongue. She would sit there and lick the air for a couple of minutes. biggrin

My wisdom teeth all came in just like regular teeth. I think if I ever get braces (which I may do someday, because I hate my crooked teeth) they'll have to pull at least a few of them to make room for the rest of my teeth to shift around. But since they don't have to dig around in there or do any surgery I'm not too worried about it.

I'm 21 and there's no sign of them yet.

However, when I was having 4 molars pulled, the dentist dropped the third one IN MY LUNG! Nitrous knocks out your gag reflex, so it just plopped down. Big molar, full roots, and all the gore that comes with it, right in my lung. I had to go to the hospital and just as the local from my mouth wore off, they put me under general. Had to stick one of those grabby camera tubes down like you see on ER. That was a bad day.
