Ok, I admit I don't always like her. In fact sometimes I despise her. But after today, Oprah just landed square at the top of my "Goddamn you are cool" list. I just witnessed her give every member of her studio audience a brand new car. So. Seriously. If its on now, or comes on later in your area watch the show today. The richest woman in the world, and what does she do? Buy cars for 200+ total strangers. She. Is. Fucking. COOL.

She regularly gives away gifts to her guests, but cars... holy hell. That's the most unexpected turn of events in Oprahistory since that other time.

I don't care what kind of car they were, that's really, really awesome. I'm sure someone will tell us all about how she's only doing it to get some kind of sneaky tax deduction and blah, blah whatever, but I'm guessing the people who went home with a car don't give a fuck and neither do I.

Exactly. Best part is they actually had people who needed the cars get them. People sent in videos of themselves or friends and famly members showing why they needed cars for work, school, etc.

Like I said, I'm sure the people who got free cars don't give a fuck. Even if she was just the catalyst for getting the cars from one place to another there are a lot of happy people out there because of it and that's awesome.

Did anyone send up the "Troll Signal"? Jesus Christ man, why are you always so fucking miserable? I know cynicism is the new black, but why does it matter if she paid out of her pocket or not? Can't you just admire that someone did something this fucking cool for complete and total strangers? And she's the richest woman in the world with one of the highest rated shows for over a decade. She's not exactly hurting for ad revenues whatever

God. Who knew so many people had thier cats run over by cars when they were kids. Cheer the fuck up you cynical bastards. By the way, how many of you would refuse the cars if you were in the audiance?

I watched a Headliners and Ledgends on her and she is inspirational. I don't know why anyone would not like her unless they were a complete douche.

Dude, you're just the kinda gullible person who makes up Oprah's target audience. Get it straight, one giant corporation (GM) who is introducing a new model went to another giant corpration (Oprah) and together they came up with a way for both of them to get tons of free publicity. I'd obviously be happy if I got a new car for free (although, those people will all be stuck with huge tax bills of many thousands of dollars for these "free gifts"), but as a viewer and consumer I completely recognize what's going on here. Neither Oprah, nor GM would have done this unless they were gonna make money from it. Period.

Just not very impressive. she can affod them (even though they came as free advertising for the company). I actually think it's quite patronising to the rednecks that makes up her audience. "here poor people, have a car".

Really? I don't watch the show. The only reason I even knew about it was because my brother told me and I turned it on

No shit, Sherlock. The business of any corporation is to make money. My point is, who cares if Harpo and GM made money on it? They could've made money any number of ways that didn't include helping out people. In this particular situation they did. Get over yourself and watch a fucking Disney movie once in a while.

Akira, I am totally with you on this one. I just read a story about it and it made my day. Pontiac is even picking up the tax payments so it doesn't burden the people that got the cars.

Who cares if it's advertising? I'd much rather support companies that do things like this than those that shove mindless commercials down my throat.

um... did you read the whole thread? The people who got the cars got them because they needed them. She also got a girl a full scholarship (tuition, books, room & board) to the university of her choice. And she just gave a family a check to buy and fix up the house they were about to get evicted from.

Not everyone is a selfish asshole. Just be happy for these people.

To this and other negative comments... I seriously don't get it. For one Oprah has like a zillion dollars. She by no means has to "buy her audience" Oprah could retire right now and pay for fulfilling lives for like the next 10 generations of her family.

Fact of the matter, she is a celebrity with an ass load of money, that did something amazingly nice for her audience. Good for her.

I don't see it as a publicity stunt or anything like that. She has more then enough fans and money.

She was nice guys. Way to turn it into a bad thing
