right now i live in boulder colorado an it sucks ass, itsa college town, an i dont go to college, itsa bar town, an im not 21, even the fuckin punk shows cost money an are p-list elitist bullshit, long story short, me ana friend will be drivin to the west coast an up to alaska in spring, there ima have a lil "vacation" an save up some money, then im gonna be movin...dunno where though, heres what i got so far

Portland: i hear it sucks job market wise here, but, i currently work for "Wild Oats" an theres like 4 of em in portland alone, so theres a chance of transferring, problem is, i dont know anyone there to help me get on my feet

Seattle: job situation i heard sucks here as well but i know some people that could possibly lend me a couch, i apparently got some cousins round there too

San Francisco: where i was born, but, its hot, and most of my insane family lives around there, rent i hear is high but i know some people that might help me

bah, so ya, i got no clue, true i dont have to decide for a while but id like to get my ducks in some sort of a row, any suggestions or helpfull hints are welcome, feel free to sell your city, or suggest any other good west coast options

ehhh an maybe east coast but i know absofuckin no one out there...well...some people in NY actually

If you move to new york, you will be disappointed. It really doesn't live up to it's hype.

move to Raleigh, NC. there's a good nightlife, a lot of the concerts are fun, the cost of living is low, and downtown Raleigh is full of plenty of artsy people.

oh yeah, and at the local grocery store they have PBR for $6.29 a 12-pack. tongue

Portland: Great town. Absolutely great. You'll never get rich there, but if you're down with hanging out, listening to music, drinking beer, and watching your life slip by, there's no better place than PDX. Art scene always has, and likely always will, suck, however. This, to me, is inexplicable.

Seattle: Amazing all over. No real down side. Major metro look, yet easy to get away from it all. Rent is dirt cheap (comparatively), and the cost of doing business is low as well. Seattle rocks.

SF: Not a single redeeming quality.

Go here to check out the comparative cost of moving to any of these cities.

I suggest Buffalo or Niagara Falls New York.................... its not expensive, people dont suck too bad. but the job market is on the not so good end......... which is why its not expensive to live.

AND! Canada is 2 minutes away, and you have to only be 19 to drink and Gamble and get into punk shows (and drink in punk shows)

Sf is Cool, if you can get over the guy pissing down your leg on the muni, or his buddy sleeping on your doorstep,

Seattle is like that, but smaller, and thusly less of a pain in the ass

I've never had a good moment on Portland, but then i'm always haulin ass through it to avoid any possible damage to my soul.

I'm in AK at this exact very moment

It is not. It's just another city. You just keep telling yourself it's awesome. Maybe it will come true.

Good plan. Go to AK, make some good cash, then decide.

I left Boulder to come to California - not a real step up as far as culture goes, but Sacramento has a good music scene. (Even if no one goes out to participate in it...)

Portland rocks! It's colder and wetter than San Francisco but no where near as expensive. Good people, good times, great beer, who needs a fucking job.

East Coast might surprise you if you haven't tried it yet. I love NY, but it's a little spendy and trendy.

My two cents - Minneapolis (my hometown) is great. The cold weather scares some people away and keeps a lot of dipshits out. Besides, Atmosphere resides here!
I'm currently in Chicago and I can't say I'd recommend it to anyone. I suppose it's a great city if you are a young guy with lots of money (and no taste). The stories about it being a corrupt city are not exaggerated.
My vote goes to Seattle. I'm considering a move there myself. Besides, you are only a few hours from Vancouver if you need a safe harbor in the event Bush is re-elected.
