Far too often I have heard people (my idiotic friends) use the logic, "Well, if I drive drunk and kill myself, it's my own fault. I had it coming."

If you don't value your own life, at least make an attempt to value others'.

After losing a very dear friend to a drunk driver, I have to say that I'm adamently against it. I cannot condone it, and I lose all respect for anyone I know who has. There's honestly no reason for it at all.

Please don't do it. If not for your sake, then for the sake of others.

This thread makes me so sad.

Wow. If anyone looks at that picture, and can drive drunk afterwards, at any point for the rest of their life... they are a terrible, terrible person. frown

Looking beyond the immediate reason of KILLING PEOPLE THROUGH YOUR OWN STUPIDITY, lets look at the law. I work for a court as a traffic clerk. My daily tasks involve dealing with tons of people that were arrested for DUII. In nearly every state, the word "drunk" is never used. The key word is "influence." The only thing that has to be proved is that you were influenced by an intoxicant. (Which honestly, could range from alcohol to marijuana to cough syrup) Not hard to prove if you blow positive for any amount on a breath test. You could blow a .001, but if the officer thinks you were unsafe, chances are you are screwed in court. In Oregon, the base fine is $3710 and a mandatory 90-day suspension of your license. It gets much worse than that and can include jail time, life suspension of your drivers license and a whole lot more fines. Why would you risk your life or anyone else's let alone risk all the terror that the legal system can impose on you. The fact that you had to ask saddens me but I heart all the people that took time to scream NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

It really makes me question wether or not you deserve to have a license, if you even need to ask this question.

Wow. I am very very impressed. Scrolling through the responses I expected at least one or two "be careful"s or similar nonchalant comments. You guys are great.
I'll add my partially responsible advice: Not unless you're completely sober, ever. Then ride that fucker like there's no tomorrow - somewhere remote where you can see that you've got the road to yourself. I'm lucky to live & ride in the desert, there's plenty of roads where I can see 10-30 miles ahead and drive 110 long enough to get it out of my system. If you've got nothing like that around, find a track that has bike days.

i just thought i would repost this...again...this is why i get drunk at home. even if you think you are ok to drive semi-intoxicated...it doesnt mean the people around you arent going to get in the way. even if someone hits you and gets smashed when they arent drunk but you are then its still your fault!

MIGHT I ADD THAT MY BEST FRIEND FROM HIGH SCHOOL WAS DRIVING DRUNK AND GOT IN AN ACCIDENT...

HE KILLED HIMSELF AND FIVE OTHER PEOPLE.

THAT IS ALL.

I'm all for the spirit and enthusiam that is motivating this idea (I live for speed) but you put others at risk so it's beyond not cool.
