i really dont see the harm in it since all they were doing was documenting whats going on in real life.. i mean everything the bums were doing was completely voluntary. if it all they were making the bums much more popular... making they're life better as it were..

The fact that some people would have the balls to make something like bum fights and that society is sick enough that they can make a profit is funny in that its a patently offensive idea, but the actual act of exploiting human suffering isn't.

Why is mental illness and addiction funny when the person is living in abject poverty, but is supposed to draw sympathy when the person suffering is middle class? I'm not saying a schizo homeless guy pissing himself in public isn't kind of funny. Its fucking awkward and makes everyone aware of it uncomfortable, and in that sense its hilarious. Why, however, is a fifteen year old cherleader forcing herself to vomit in order to look thin or suffering from diet pill addiction tragic and so much more taboo to joke about?

I'm not really trying to take the moral highground here or anything. I just find the sociological elements to discussions like this kind of weird and fascinating.

I think that with all the reality Tv these days people are naturally looking for the next more shocking thing. Its all about purposeful desensitization. I don't want to be shocked. I just want to laugh at absurdity. If somebody, anybody's going to do dumb shit, I hope there's a camera handy. As a matter of fact, if anybody wants to follow me around, I'm sure I'll be shitting gold sooner or later. Those videos bring more attention to the plight of the homeless, the addiction and desperation, then any local or national news even attempts to do. It disgust you? Good! Do something about it. Sometimes though, its easier to laugh then it is to cry.

I'm sure the sixteen year old stoners laughing about these DVD's in-between bong hits are really thinking about how terrible the plight of the homeless is.

Not only that, but to say that attracting people to do something to help the homeless was anywhere in the creators' minds is absolutely ridiculous.

I think we're both right.
It would be absolutely ridiculous to say that helping the homeless was in the creators' minds. Did somebody say that?
And just as they say "the road to hell is paved with good intentions", sometimes the most severe tragedies can inspire huge acts of good will. And I wouldn't right off those sixteen year old stoners yet. some of them are great people.

Ohh, I'm aware. They were my best friends in high school. I'm just saying they don't have much on their minds besides cheetos and getting laid.
