I would be tempted to actually use that on occasion. My VCR is almost as old as I am and, knock wood, has never even been in the shop for a repair.

I nearly forgot this one. In 1997 I bought a 1969 Chevy Nova from my brother. I drove it pretty much every day for the next six years. I'd still be driving it if my mom's car didn't get such great gas mileage.

A manual lawnmower isn't fun, a have some friends that use one and it takes almost two days to mow their lawn. Recently they got an electric lawnmower that they have to run an extension cord into the house to run. I can't even count how many times they've ran over the extension cord and not been able to finish mowing.

I'm kind of disappointed that my most popular thread was "How do I make ♥ these?", which was full of people saying ♥ but is now full of people saying ♥ frown

Oooh, I've still got a betamax too. It's got the flip top, a remote attached to the front by a cable, and wood paneled sides. It is so rad.

I don't necessarily know if it'd be considered obsolete...but I still mainly use manual hand tools. I have a complete set of Black & Decker power-tools...but I usually use my dad's old wooden hand tools. There's definitely a romantic feel to it. It's like you're creating comething instead of just slapping something together.

I always thought there was something ironic about power tools covered in cheap plastic. Old tools and components are neat because they're so tough-looking. Whenever I watch a Bond film and the villian is holding a clunky stainless steel remote with flip-switches on it, I get wistful.

i'd love to have a rotary phone again... been thinking about that for a while, i need to start hunting.

i have a tv that's ancient. it's a little 13 or 15inch screen, UHF & VHF dials (the metal ones that go click-click-click-click hard), color & non-color button, doesn't work with dvd's even when you use a coax adapter, carriable by a little handgroove in the top. it's between (at a guess) 2o & 25yrs old.

i love that little sucker and will someday find some way to put it to use again, as it is, indeed, still working as well as it ever did (meaning limitedly).

my hubby has a small mortar & pestle for spice. he bought me a large one (about 8inch diameter on the inside, 10inch to the outside, about 20-30lbs as it's solid granite) for my more involved grinding.

sure, i could use the food processor, but there's something so pleasing about sitting down and grinding your oat or rice flour by hand, or flaxseeds, or .......

I love oldy timey antiquated phrases. A personal favorite... when I go out I often tell friends I'll be there, "as soon as I put my face on". Also, I often find things that are truly wonderful to be, "the bees knees."

I like to appraoch two or more strangers engaged in conversation and ask, "What's the rumpus?" I've always tipped my boater and toddled off before they have an answer.

My other favourite old-timey phrase is "wang-doodle" as in, "Tonight me and my best gal are gonna wang-doodle, hot-cha-cha-cha!"

oh you kid.

If you still used it today that'd totally be what I was talking about.

I have an old CP/M luggable which I sometimes use because it has a really nasty hissy speech synth.
