I recently found my old typewriter. I cleaned it up, got a new ribbon, and dinked about with it, not thinking that I'd end up using it. But I do use it, quite often. It's often easier to type an address on an envelope than fire up my word processor and fiddle about find the envelope thing and then get my printer working.

So, has anyone else found a use for 'obsolete' technology.

i collect old typewriters. i love them, especially when they're mint green or pink. there are some fantastic ones on ebay, but unfortunately shipping those to new zealand is usually more expensive than the typewriter itself. blackeyed

&, uh.. i use typewriters for writing with. call me wacky!

Oh, and I have a rotary phone. It's best to keep something like that around for when the electricity goes down, you've got a solid backup.

My microwave is older than me. It works way better than new ones and is like new itself. And it features "realistic wood grain".

i'm a printmaker. by definition, i'm "obsolete technology". if anyone would like to find a use for me, i can send you my resume. printed, of course, on an 18th century letterpress.

I love my typewriter. I had to file some papers in court earlier this week. And my ink cartridge ran out on my printer at the crucial moment.
Needless to say my typewriter came to the rescue.
It took awhile for the motors and such to get moving but a couple punches on the keys and a little nudge when I hit return a few times and it was like new.

Well, just so you know, your phone lines are powered seperately from your main house power. If the electricity goes out your phones will still work, as long as they aren't cordless. You can actually power lots of things from your phone line in the event of an electrical outage. Just thought I'd mention it.

I use pen, pencil, and paper when I write still. Does that count? I like to do rough drafts on something that doesn't require me to sit in front of a computer.

I use a typewriter an awful lot. I carry a fountain pen. I am writing this on a Commadore 64.

Pong blows my mind.

Rotary dial, old school egg beater, electric typewriter, vintage pots & pans..

my friend Lydia's dad just found her a vintage yellow Swedish typewriter. Jealousy reigns.

i still do. it's one of those huge old JVC's with coloured, two inch high buttons on the front. it weighs about fifty pounds and only has mono composite ins. i love it.

every time i look at it i want to slay whoever came up with AGC based copy protection. they ruined the usefulness of my favorite clunky old piece of hardware.

I would be tempted to actually use that on occasion. My VCR is almost as old as I am and, knock wood, has never even been in the shop for a repair.

I nearly forgot this one. In 1997 I bought a 1969 Chevy Nova from my brother. I drove it pretty much every day for the next six years. I'd still be driving it if my mom's car didn't get such great gas mileage.

I adore fountain pens. My grandfather and father collect them and have thousands between the both of them.

I remember using my dad's Commadore 64 when I was a wee little'un.
Twas the first computer I ever used. biggrin
