The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation director Sofia Coppola is working with Columbia picture to write and direct a “stylized account” of Marie-Antoinette's life and death. Kirsten Dunst will play Marie and Jason Schwartzman of CQ will play Louis XVI.

"I've always loved the story of Marie Antoinette and the decadence of Versailles on the brink of revolution," Coppola said, "and the fact she was just a teenager when circumstances forced her to play a significant role in history."

I think that under Coppola’s direction, a drama about the French revolution would be interesting to say the least. It is quite a large undertaking and she may get bogged down in the sure size of it. Even the best directors have tendencies to end up getting swallowed by their production.

And Schwartzman as Louis is perfect since he did apply to Oxford and the Sorbonne. Harvard was his safety.

will she have My Bloody Valentine on the soundtrack again? that'd be ironic. kids love that "irony" thing.

wait... hold your Nike hi-tops and witty vintage tshirt. she's doing a period picture?

if this is going to inspire all those art school chicks to wear corsets again (thank you Moulin Rouge) then i'm totally there.

Uh yea.....OK...

I'll probably see it, but I think she should stick to smaller, less ambitious films.

As for this film seems ambitiously stupid - or costneresque.

I love that teaser trailer for Sofia Coppola's film version of Antonia Fraser's book about Marie "Let them eat cake!" Antoinette. The trailer's soundtrack is occupied solely by an anachronistic song by New Order. And the film title art suggests new wave '80s design motifs. Such a bravura (Kubrick-esque!) piece of marketing bodes well for this film, which stars Kirsten Dunst and comes out next fall.

she's 2 for 2 in my book and i think schwartzman is vastly under rated so this one is high up there on my anticpated list.

untrue, lost in translation was pure shit. It was a myspace journal in movie form, completely self absorbed. She made fun of Spike Jonze for the entire movie. I liked virgin suicides but rumor has it her dad helped her on it.
