Mike Wallace, the veteran reporter for 60 Minutes, handcuffed and brought to a police station was after an altercation with two city inspectors over his illegally parked car.

The dispute began at about 8:30 p.m., as Wallace was leaving a Manhattan restaurant, WCBS-TV reported. Wallace, 86, saw two inspectors interviewing his driver, who they said was double-parked.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission said Wallace became "overly assertive and disrespectful" and interfered with the inspectors, according to WCBS.

At one point, Wallace lunged at one of the inspectors, according to the commission. The other inspector then handcuffed Wallace and drove him to a police station, where he was issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

A CBS spokesperson has stated that Wallace has been released and is home.

Part of me is impressed he's pushing the better side of 90 and can fight, but a larger part of me is basically saying he's just acting like another swelled headed "star" who believes the rules that the rest of us have to obey do not apply to them.

LEAVE RICH PEOPLE ALONE!!! wink

I don't know Mike Wallace, but I do know that the T&LC inspectors make Parking Enforcement look like the freakin' Teletubbies. They're basically a bunch of guys who do a shitty job because they get to push around illegal immigrants.

What's great is there is now going to be a "60 Minutes" expose on the T&LC. One can hope!

Who said harassing celebrities leads nowhere?

The TLC and parking enforcement agents are on a rampage in NYC. Cab drivers and limo drivers are getting tickets for stoping to pick up their fairs/clients in "No Standing Zones", scooters and MCs are getting ticketed relentlessly for parking on and off the sidewalk, cars are getting bogus parking tickets (too close to hydrant, alt side etc)

The agents are just way too overzealous, and hopefully the wallace incident will help call attention to it. THere are still real serious crimes, or quality of life crimes or traffic enforcement that teh fuzz is not doing enough about (blocked fire and bus lanes and bus stops, illegal turning, runnin gread lights , blocking the box, double parking)

If you ride a scooter or mc join this campaign for designated on street parking and reduction in fines http://www.ParkingNow.org

I don't think handcuffing the belligerent Mike Wallace was appropriate or respectfull. I believe the proper procedure for dealing with ancient trouble makers is to hold them by the top of their head while their flabby arms helplessly flail in one miserable attempt to hit you after another.

There are accounts of the incident that say that people watching it happen were booing the cops.

This case sounds more and more to me like some meter maid with a gun trying to be a badass.

Yeah, I find 86 year olds extremely threatening. Whatever. I hope their mothers kick them out of the basements because of this.

I totally wanna try that place's meatloaf, though.

It's hard to find good meatloaf from a restaurant.
