OK I can't fucking sleep and I somehow started thinking of books I read in elementary school. There was one series about this kid who met this alien, I think, and tried to teach him about earth. All I really remember is that in one of the books the alien came back and his spaceship had canged to look like a car and the kid said it reminded him of a "peanut roaster." Now I know it's sad that I loved these books as a kid and "peanut roaster" is all I can remember, but if any can remember this shit let me know because it's driving me insane.

Also there was some book about a kid going to this island that was inhabited by lizards. but this island folated around the ocean and was somehow invisible. Not sure how I got thinking of these things but if it rings any bells let me know. I can't have been the only one to read these.

the "USSA" series about the military taking over america and turning it into a totalitarian state. teenager and friends mount a resistance with motorcycles and girls, battling robotic spy sparrows.

for some reason i remember a book called "Ghost of Summer" by Eve Bunting. the protagonist is twelve or so and gets to kiss the girl in the end, which i thought was rad. (this was the late 80s)

Starchase. don't remember the author. something about teleportation through the universe.

All of the Hardy Boys series.

All of the Nancy Drew series.

Planet out of the Past. group of teens ends up in a spaceship then somehow on another planet fighting cro-magdons.

The Keep, F. Paul Wilson. not a kid's book, but that never stopped me.

I was reading Stephen King by fifth grade. shocked

When I was a kid I was totally into books by John Bellairs (the Johnny Dixon series). I think I must have read them all at least 5 times.

I now know they were only to prepare me for my undying love of Harry Potter, but they were a good way to pass my youth. biggrin

O yeah. There was this other book I remember reading in middle school one of those anti-utopia books. It was something with giant pod things and people had to wear helmets to be controlled by them.. I wish I could remember the name of that damn book because I loved it. I *heart* negative utopia books.
