Ken Jennings has broken the one day record on Jeopardy!. He also sits on $1,321,660 earned over the last two months. While Jeopardy! goes on hiatus for the summer, Ken will conquer the world in time for the series to be picked up in September where he will drink the blood of systems analysts and schoolteachers.

Three times, Jennings purposely tied the one-day record of $52,000 with carefully calculated wagers on Final Jeopardy. On Friday, he approached the "Final Jeopardy" question having already earned $51,400.
Asked to name two of the four Shakespeare plays in which ghosts appear onstage, Jennings correctly answered "Hamlet" and "Richard III."
Then he revealed his bet: $23,600.
"Will it never end for this talented young man?" host Alex Trebek said. "We'll have to wait awhile to find out."
Jennings, who lives in Salt Lake City and is married with a 1-year-old son, is a Mormon who has already promised to tithe 10 percent of his winnings to his church.
"Jeopardy!" used to require its champions to leave after winning five times, but last year changed its rules to allow players to continue until they are beaten. Jennings has beaten 76 challengers.

I think there are two among us who can meet his call and lay the show to waste in burnination.

If he answers the question "What movie won the Best Picture Academy Award for 1954?" with "On The Waterfront", you know he's done.

Well this guy is obviously good with trivia and was naturally good in this format. The thing that really works for him now is that anyone who has a chance to beat him comes on the show for the first time and has to work through all the nerves and uneasiness of a completely new and probably strange environment (I doubt many spend much time on a TV set or in front of cameras).

Plus they know they are facing a guy who just beat 76 people in a row. Yikes. So his experience of beating 76 challengers is giving him a much larger advantage than he would have had.

That is a tough environment to play against someone for the first time.

Only God knows how much this guy can wrack up. I think they film them 5 shows at a time. So this guy much be in the studio all day long when they shoot.

you hafta figure he knows 80% of everything anyway...so I think it comes down to buzzing in, he must have the rhythm down - which definitely compunds the experience advantage -when you watch him next time watch the other contestants trying to buzz in - its so sad

Yeah, Jeopardy's all like "Goddamnit! I hate these good ratings! We're losing all our indie cred!" wink

And the Ken Jennings is like, "In your fase Jeopardy and Mormon haters and Jehovah's Witnesses!"

Meanwhile I'm like, "Yeah. whatevah." whatever

I think in the new season the producers have seen him long enough to know his weak areas so they will make a category "shit Ken doesn't know"

The thing i've noticed about this guy is that he guesses a lot. He is always the first to ring in, his buzzer skills are amazing. By ringing in first, he has 10 seconds to think about the answer. And usually he gets it right.

Traditionally on Jeoprady!, contestants would only ring in if they knew the answer. He doesn't allow anyone else to ring in.

He's blown away the game, completly. No one has ever domintated like this. He's already $1 million above the next closest winnings total.

He's made Jeopardy as much fun as watching a tennis match and seeing one of the Williams sisters win... AGAIN. Or following the Tour de France and hearing that Lance Armstrong is winning... AGAIN. Or a boxing match with Mike Tyson and *GASP* he's WON AGAIN!

Comptetions are pretty boring nowadays.

Imagine though, how glorifically blessed those 15 minutes of fame will be for the person who beats him and then never wins again...

Glorific. Yeah, I made that up. Deal with it.
