Ben Garant is best known as Deputy Travis Junior on the Comedy Central hit series Reno 911. But Garant was also a founding member of The State, a comedy troupe which went on to great cult fame on MTV in the early 1990’s. Another guise he wears is one of the premier comedy scriptwriters and rewriters in Hollywood with many movies he worked on being released this year.

Just recently the first hilarious season of Reno 911 was released on DVD. I got a chance to talk with Garant about that, Teenage...

Seriously, THE STATE was one of the best shows i have ever ever watched. The humor was so off and the cast was incredible. Hearing that they are having music copyrighting problems is a bummer cause alot of the songs really made the skits. They just need to put it out on DVD already. Its from like 10 years ago just fuckin release it

Fox ripped off the Super Troopers guys, as they had originally planned to do a series with them but they don't plan to sue.

Fuck that I'd sue.

what's sad is on those lame MTV sketch comedy retrospectives they give the state no damned respect.

i used to stay up and watch that show. then i stayed up and watched viva variety. my favorite epsiode was the one with the pizzicato five.

*flyaway!*

I would give my good arm for a State DVD. I ended up introducing my housemates to a bootlegged, 20th-generation VHS tape purchased on eBay of Skits and Stickers, their out of print VHS tape.......and now they can all do Doug perfectly.

I miss the skit where they kill and eat Muppets.

Great Interview!
I have been watching re-runs of The State that I recorded off of MTV since the early 90's - definitely one of my favorite shows of all time. Reno 911 rocks too - but nothing will ever top The Cuttlery Barn or the Pants skit from the State.
