I still cant get over the difference between Ghost World (the comic) and Ghost World the movie. i love the movie (and i think the casting was perfect) but it would have been great to see the comic go straight up as the movie without all the major tweaking.

what do you guys think? the comic or movie??

I have yet to read the actual comic. It is on my list of things to do. I did see the movie, however, and I loved it.

I saw the movie first, so I really like it. I guess I'd pick the comic, it's just a smidgen more miserable. I've heard that Summer Blonde might be made as a film, I hope that doesn't get broken.

I love both of them...I wish they had done the movie in the style that Waking Life was done....with the overlay of actual graphics over the actors...that would have bridged the gap fairly well in my hummble opinion...

My thoughts exactly. Ghost World the comic is an awesome comic, and Ghost World the movie is an awesome movie. smile

the comic is at least one billion times better. the movie had some good parts but all the dialogue sounded so...prepared? every line thora birch said sounded awkward and kind of forced. i loved the scenes in the art classes, that shit was so dead on. dan clowes has such a vengeance for art school. anyone who liked the movie should definitely check out the comic. the new eightball just came out too, pick that up while you're at it.

Wow, this thread is three years old.

I love both the movie and the graphic novel. I appreciated the comic, but I related and connected to the film like nothing I had ever seen before. Both Enid and her particular place in the world - feeling both drawn to and repulsed by the mainstream humanity that she finds herself immersed in - and equally Seymour - having sectioned himself off as an obscure curiosity to the rest of the world - were characters that I felt had been written for me.

Perhaps because the source novel is a series of vignettes while Zwigoff's world is a linear, rounded creation, the film for me is painfully close-to-home experience. There are a multitude of connection points into this filmic encounter, and I guess I just hit a couple of them head-on.

Just rented this movie a few nights ago, as a matter of fact. I grow fonder of it each time I see it.

Don't know anything about the comic short of it exsists. At this point, it would probably do nothing more than change my opinion of the movie.

Read the comic first. If I hadn't, I probably would have loved the movie to death. As it stands, I'm not such a fan beyond the casting. It also bothers me that all the art school stuff was taken from Art School Confidential and Gynecology.
