But that was the law. He was amply warned not to go. And let's not forget those sanctions were in place because the Yugoslavian government was engaging in genocide, which, apparently, ol' Bobby doesn't have any problem with.

You violate the law that willfully and blatantly, don't expect nothing to come of it.

Ironically where would civil rights be if people were afraid to break the law?

Fischer has always been half cracked. A genius, but cracked. He's apparently a known anti-semite, doesn't much like the U.S. (as made apparent by his comments in the article) and pretty much doesn't seem to give a shit about anyone.

The term "genius" is thrown around much too lightly these days. Bobby Fischer is not a genius, more like a sociopathic chess savant.

the whole "but he's a savant!" syndrome ticks me off.

if he were a janitor, would there be any reason to overlook what he says about other people?

i also love how there all these commentaries stating that he "proved" that america was an intellectual country.

if we need that as evidence of our intellectualism, well...

feh.
