The AIDES Association, a French AIDS awareness network, has created some disturbing ads depicting "Wonder Woman" and "Superman" (PDF) stricken with AIDS. They include TV spots and posters.

Babelfish Translation:

The last statistical data available since the beginning of the year confirm what associations of fight against the AIDS observe on the ground since many months: a recrudescence in France of the contaminations by the virus of the AIDS. In this context, ASSISTANCES launches a new national campaign of sensitizing for this summer, period particularly favourable with the relaxation of the behaviors of prevention.

I think its some pretty powerful stuff as far as getting a message across -- the shock value of them is great.

People who see thath are going to say to themselves that's pretty messed up, think its kind of cool looking, wonder why they look so frail, etc ...

One way or another, the images will draw your attention to them if they're posted up somewhere.

I like it. Where did they get AIDS, though? The premiss seems kinda shakey... but the images are fantastic, which nearly makes up for it biggrin

did the ppl responsible for the ad actually say that it was wonder women/superman? obviously its intended to look like them, but unless they expressly stated that it was them, they may be able to get away with it.

isn't wonderwoman and superman copyrighted by dc comics confused
they dont have to blatantly say it's superman/ wonderwoman to get sued, a likeness is enough.

I would say their premise is 50% implausible. Wonder Woman is from Earth and not immune to disease but is very stong, agile, and has quick reflexes. Superman is not from Earth and IS immune to disease, the only thing that would affect him is some form of radiation or the a part of his home planet...which doesn't make him weak just not stong.

Sorry, I guess I'm a nerd ooo aaa

it's obviously to get the idea that anybody, even the strongest or the most healthy, can be struck down by AIDS. It's not meant to be plausible, kind of like the idea that an alien coming down from another planet with superpowers will come to our planet to save us all. whatever

and who's to say the image rights weren't agreed upon? it's an important message anywhere around the world.
