See, I'd still love to get a Mac laptop. However, I'm not a huge fan of the OS. I'd get used to it, though, and fall in love with it just like many others have . For now I'll just pet my iPod. That's connected to my PC laptop.
my HP ze4560 is solid, I'll never own a desktop again. the only thing I miss by not having a mac is that kick ass screen saver "flurry".

though i had one of those compaq evos, it was a great laptop for the money, as windows laptops go, never had a problem with it. then i bought an ibook in a sale on a whim, i no longer have the compaq
and i have been told by many people that vaio's are way overpriced for what you get, yes i am extolling the virtues of an expensive mac but if you do go windows, there are better deals than sony.

If you're looking for a pc, then you need to decide a couple of things: first, what are you going to use it for? do you want a cpmputer that you can run off the battery for extended periods of time, or do you want a computer that performs like a desktop that you can move around pretty easily? for the computer that you expect to use away from an outlet, and for users who aren't going to be doing processor intensive activity (like rendering, games, or photoshop and the like), then go for a pentium centrino based system. If you need power and are ok with shorter battery life, go with a pentium 4 based system.
as far as manufaturers go, sonys fall apart, and so do thinkpads. My employer purchased thinkpads for our use april of last year, and by november, half of them were having serious hardware issues (including mine, whose usb2 plug literally broke). the most durable consumer focused company seems to be toshiba, whose systems look great, with good screens, and are built like tanks. or you could go the uber pricey enthusiast route and get an alienware. and when youre done you can buy me one too, since you apparently have money to throw around, heh.
Heh. I own a ZX5000, and it hasn't had any problems whatsoever. But, the Dell XPS laptops are money. I want one now...but I'll just upgrade my desktop if I want to run games like that.
I got myself a compaq in 2001 and it is still in use. At work I have a thinkpad... I will never buy one as they are ugly and suck in general. So I would suggest a compaq...
if u want a laptop get an alienware......it cost a lot of money and most ppl will say its not worth the money but my HP sucks ass and my best friend has an alienware...welll worth the money. although it wont touch my new computer which cost $3500 custom built...... desktop all the way!!!!

go sony vaio if you don't want to go mac
i agree totally. i love my powerbook g4 (just like i loved my powerbook g3 and my g4 tower), but the only pc that even approaches the mac is the sony. although you still have to run windows.
well, you don't have to, but you probably will.
(by the way, i spilled a cup of water on my open powerbook two hours ago. nothing happened. the computer was on, i wiped it up and kept working.. awesome. can a dell do that? somehow i doubt it.)

my friend just got a Dell, so they seem the way to go. i love my imac n want a mac laptop so im no real help. but Dell = good
then why did 6 of the 10 people i know who bought dell laptops in the past year have huge problems with them? and don't say they're idiots, they are all savvy people.
