Tell her. If you have a healthy relationship with your mom (like it sounds you do) there's nothing you can do that will make her love you less. After all which is worse, the days and weeks of hiding it and worrying or the possible couple days where she is a bit steamed? It won't be the first time shes pissed at you and probably won't be the last.

I currently have a tond of piercings..... including my septum, nipples, 2 vertical hoods, tongue web and retired surface piercing my parents do not know about.... oh also a tattoo they don't know about. In my opinion, it's better they don't know. But I can't say without knowing your mom personally... good luck either way.
i say you should tell her, dont jepordize the friendship you have with her by trying to hide something so trivial... its your body, so even if she doesnt like piercings the worst she can really do is say that... good luck
tell her. honesty is key. my mom and i are the same way about that type of stuff. i got certain "body mods" i knew she wouldn't like but, she got over it in time. if you want to keep the relatioinship strong, tell her. explain to her you didn't want to tell her for whatever reason, if you have the type of relationship you say, she'd understand more. good luck in whatever you choose to do.
I do not understand the tattoos are ok, but piercings are bad attitude. PIERCINGS ARE TEMPORARY!! Tattoos are forever. People that hate piercings but think tattos are cool really bug me. So what, you hate needles, get over it.

Seriously, it's a surface piercing so you aren't going to have it that long. Normally I'd say tell her and tell her what I said above but in much nicer terms. But it's a surface piercing so hide it.

I was kinda thinking the same thing.
Mom, she's generally very open minded, very smart, a lot of fun. In the past, she never cared when my hair was pink, when I dressed up to go to the Dungeon, came home with a tattoo, dated a girl, play poker once a week. She has gone to punk shows, gone to sing karaoke with my friends, realized "jaegar is good" on her 48th birthday.
On the other hand, she is somewhat of a public figure in this town.
after all that, sounds to me like she could handle not liking your piercings... of course, my mom's a southern baptist, so I'm not really sure how these things are supposed to work!
