Hi guys. I know I'm not the most serious poster around these parts, but this is very serious.

My friend's mom died a few days ago after a long battle with cancer and I made the decision that I am going to start donating money towards cancer research on a yearly basis. I've seen way too many families, including my own, devestated by this horrible disease and if I can chip in just a little bit to stop it than I will. My youngest brother is (thank all gods) a cancer survivor and I know first hand the incredible pain and suffering that family, friends and loved ones go through. So I'm asking for you to consider donating as well.

Thanks for your time everyone.
Respectfully yours,
Daniel

Amazing how things of this nature become more important to us when they hit close to home. I myself was a greedy l'il yuppie with my money until last year. I've been happily donating to two main causes... Leukemia/Lymphoma & LAMs disease. Good causes... there are people in tough shape, and I can do something about it. Every last one of us can.

This makes me very happy. You guys rock.

My little brother carried one end of the banner in the Walk For Life back home. My whole family and a bunch of their friends went. I was down here working but I saw pictures and I really wish I could have been there.

I've been contributing monthly since my mum was diagnosed. The place where I work has a scheme where they match any monthly donation you make, and you don't get taxed on it.

My grandfather died of pancriatic cancer last year. I sorry to say that sooner or later, everyone will see the effects of this disease.

And yes, I too will be donating my money and my time to cancer research or activities this year.

I already do donate to cancer research. Lost my Dad a month ago, and my step-sister 2 years ago.

If you have spare cpu time you might want to consider giving it to Grid.org who do cancer research.

I've not used them, so read the Terms and Conditions carefully, in case they also do chemical weapons or something.

EDIT to say: Sorry to hear about your loss. I can't say anything else.

I'm a research scientist at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio. Working on programs to help physicians effectively treat cancer with radiotherapy. It's kind of scary, but right now, they more or less look at MRI data, and say "ummmmm let's shoot them with radiation here, uh, here, and I guess here."

Our program takes CAT scan and MRI data, and finds the best possible radiotherapy treatment plan.

And it's funded by folks like you... keeps food on my table, and ideas in my head. Thank you to all of you. It's pretty amazing to be at the forefront of progress here, and see the money pouring in to support us.
