OK - sorry all for offending you with my big city comment - but truth is, things like that happen far more often in large cities than small ones. Yes, bad things happen in small cities (my own stepdad was murdered) but "per capita" they happen more frequently in large ones. So no, while pop size does not dictate human behaviour, it does dictate how many more humans there are to misbehave. Here in Edmonton, we can actually keep track of how many murders/suicides happen in a year - is this possible in LA or NY? Or are there just too many too count?

I don't want to give the impression of jumping all over you, but your facts and logic have a few problems. Actually Fresno and Bakerfield (where Aries' cousin did his thang) are in the central valley, an agricultural area that has more in common with small/medium farming cities than NY or LA.
The idea that big cictes don't track violent crime becuase there just too darn many of them is hallarious.
Check out this site
Some tables of interest for 2002 will be:

Table 11a, Offenses Known to Law Enforcement by Rural County with populations less than 25,000
Table 8 - Offenses Known to Law Enforcement by City 10,000 and Over in Population
Table 8a - Offenses Known to Law Enforcement by City 10,000 and Under in Population

Crime tends to be somewhat higher in cities, but there are a lot of meth and gang infested small towns out there as well.

Sorry if this comes off as rude, you seem like a really nice person on the boards, but it's sad to me to see such weird assumptions defining somene's worldview.

In California they have the 10-20-30 law. Use a gun in a crime, automatically 10 years on top of the time for the crime. 20 years if the trigger gets pulled. 30 years if anyone is injured or killed. Again, on top of the time for the other offenses.

Now, the fact that your cousin was high. Had several depressing issues. And he claims suicide by cop. He may not spend life in prison. But, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Also, California actually has a mental hospital in there prison system. He may end up there.

Poor dude. Yeah, he fucked up. But he is gonna pay for a lot of peoples sins.

If you're curious, I too have no idea how to respond to that. Other than that if my cousin went on a rampage like that I'd need to post something about it too.

That is quite the story-from what I understand, at least in the U.S-cops can't make a person have an accident, or risk the life of the alleged 'guilty' party during a car chase. I would think that if he was shooting at them though...they'd shoot back. But basically, anything that would endanger the lives of innocent bystanders, they have to pull back. Still sucks though-I'm sure he must have been feeling liking nothing else could go worse for him, and he was wrong apparently...
