This has happened a few days ago but i wanted to share with people. OK so my cousin has 2 girlfriends. 2 different cities. He is 25 yrs. old. One found out about the other and broke it off. The other broke it off cause she said she was pregnant and she wanted to never see him again. The same day my cousin lost his job. Well he went and flipped out and said if she dosent see him, he would kill himself... So she agreed. She called the cops first so they tracked him down on his way over to Fresno. High speed chase happened. Then my cousin pulled out an uzzi. (im not sure of the spelling) Anyways, he shot tons of bullets at the cops, the cops turned around and tried to get away... He followed them and tried to shoot them. Well then he crashes and goes down an embankment and breaks his neck or whatever... He was trying to get the cops to shoot and kill him... His plan didnt work. So he's in prison with a 2 million dollar bail. Two days later they let him out accidently. When they realized, they had a 5 million dollar warrent for him. They eventually found him. My family is going through hell. This shit normally happends in movies. I was kinda tripping but he gets what he deserves...Anyways i thought it was funny that he was on the front page of the newspapers in 2 cities. The one in Bakersfield had his picture on the front page next to Bin Lauden...I got on the same page in a magazine once next to Bjork but this is rediculous.

I really, really don't want this to come off sounding the wrong way, but these things are exactly why I would never want to live in LA, or NY, or any large city like that. I'm so sorry for your suffering Aries - peace to you and your family.

it doesn't 'come off sounding the wrong way'. you are just evidentally quite misinformed. population size doesnt dictate human behavior. suicidal tendencies and criminal behavior are functions of the human pysche under abnormal stress. these things happen across the globe, in tiny villages and huge metropolises. its pretty ignorant to say that this could be locational.

aries, i hope that your cousin is able to get the treatment and rehabilitation he needs to be able to survive and flourish when his sentence is over. hopefully your family will stay strong through it. kiss

Sorry to hear about your cousin. He's in some pretty deep doo-doo. In prison with a 5 million dollar tab, a pregnant ex-girlfriend, no job, a broken neck, a smashed up car, and a bunch of angry cops. Be nice to know how he got his hands on an Uzi, something you won't find in small town usa. I don't mean to make light of his situation, but you are right, it is totally surreal and does sound like a movie, right down to being next to Bin Laden on the front page. Sounds like you are keeping your humor, which is a good way to be. Got Monty Python lyrics playing through my head:

Some things in life are bad,

They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing your life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle,
And this'll help things turn out for the best,
And.....
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the light side of life.
[whistling]
If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle. That's the thing.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the right side of life,
[whistling]
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.
So,...
Always look on the bright side of death,
[whistling]
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
[whistling]
Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke. It's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling] x9

Can he (or his family) afford a private attorney?

Considering the situation, he might want to talk with his attorney about an insanity defense. If found not guilty by reason of insanity (this is rare), he would still be institutionalized, but perhaps in a better setting.

Also, if his firearm wasn't registered, then he is facing even more charges. Although I do not understand the current gun control laws in their entirety, I do not know whether he could legally register and own an uzi submachine gun, considering the current Assault Weapons Ban.

p.s. this has nothing to do w/ living in a big metropolis.

p.p.s i agree he needs rehab more than to be locked up.

Dear lord that sucks. My condolences to your family. If there's a silver lining, he's in the pokey and not in the morgue. Emptying a couple of clips into cops at 1,100 rounds a minute doesn't do much for your life expectency.

Im sorry about your cousin. frown

I can say my cousins arent the best either...

one was in jail for statutory rape, his brother was almost beaten to death by a friend of his, over drugs... this is the same cousin that threatened to kill my brother's friend, because my brother owed him money.

and it happened in kansas in a town of about 2000 or less. so it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with a huge population or whatever. Things can be that tough all over.

OK - sorry all for offending you with my big city comment - but truth is, things like that happen far more often in large cities than small ones. Yes, bad things happen in small cities (my own stepdad was murdered) but "per capita" they happen more frequently in large ones. So no, while pop size does not dictate human behaviour, it does dictate how many more humans there are to misbehave. Here in Edmonton, we can actually keep track of how many murders/suicides happen in a year - is this possible in LA or NY? Or are there just too many too count?
