Actor Marlon Brando died in a Los Angeles hospital yesterday at the age of 80. Brando was star of On the Waterfront, A Streetcar Named Desire, and The Godfather. A constroversal figure, he was poltically active on behalf of Native American rights and sent a woman that called herself Sasheen Littlefeather to refuse his 1973 best actor Oscar for The Godfather.

Indeed, before he lost his fastball, Brando was a hoss.

Brando turned screen acting into an art form like no one else before him. So sad what his life turned into...but I guess it was his own doing. He's the greatest American screen actor of all time and he'll be remembered as such.

Chris Elliot needs to do a banana dance of sadness.

Seriously, this is sad. "On the Waterfront" is still my fave.

A few years ago, I once saw a panel of international, fancy pants critics. These were mostly theater-types. When asked who the the greatest actor of all time, they debated between Olivier and Brando. When the host limited the survey to film only, they unanimously agreed it was Brando. So there's that. Kinda cool, I think.

Even though he hasn't done anything good since Apocalypse Now.

don juan de marco wasn't too bad. i thought it was going to be awful... and it IS a chick flick... but it's still not too bad.

Despite the fact that his last great film was probaly made about 1963 (The Ugly American), he is arguably the best American actor of all time. It's sad to see how downhill he went in the past 35 years...I couldn't get any info on what he died from ,though. Old age? Morbid obesity? I hadn't even heard he was in the hospital.
