The whole point of the Malfoys is that they're snobby purebloods.

As far as they let on.

I, too, avoided the books until 2002 because of all of the hype. Then I read them all that summer and realized they're really fucking good. I read the fifth as soon as it was released last summer.

I hope this one comes out soon. I don't care if it's 2000 pages. I'll be ready with my Pepperidge Farm cookies (a Harry Potter reading tradition).

I'm such a dork. blush

I believe the point of the books is to be what Ms. Rowling desires them to be. Although your comparison to the Illiad is interesting, I don't think she would have targeted the novels to as young an audience if that were her intentions.

The whole point of the Malfoys is that they're snobby purebloods. Pureblood Lucius Malfoy married pureblood Narcissa Black and had Draco. So he couldn't really be the Half-Blood Prince, could he?

I'm guessing the Half-Blood Prince will be a character we haven't seen yet (or at least haven't seen much of).

One more thought: It could be Hagrid. He's a half-blooded giant.

[Edited on Jun 29, 2004 4:04PM]

Hagrid is my first thought as well, but does Hermoine have a brother? Plus I'm sure there are plenty of mudbloods we don't know of. surreal

hermione isnt wizard blood at all, she was let in because she was a genius, both her parents were dentist....wow i feel like a fanboy

and jem im diggin the slytherin scarf....im more a hufflepuff fan myself...haha j/k

as geeky as i know this sounds, i'm aware of Draco Malfoy's lineage. i was just thinking that since it's already been revealed that Voldemort is a "half blood", then perhaps there are some surprises in store for us re: the Malfoys. i figure that she's gotta wrap up the Potter/Malfoy thing sooner or later, and she's only got two books in which to do it.

yer probably right, though - Hagrid is a better bet.

i thought he was 64 ? ::laugh:: not that it much matters though because Giants live for an extremely loooooong time so even though he is only half giant he would still enjoy a longer lifetime than a normal human.
my first thought was Hagrid too wink
But J.K. had said that the stuff that is book six was originally part of the plot from book two, but that she knew it rightfully belonged in six...sooo there is more to be looked at in book two as in looking for clues as to what is the plot for book six ^_^ ...that was confusing lol

I am an all out rabid Hagrid fangirl though so if it is him, book six will be my most favorite ever ^_^ (runs off to reread book two LOL )

And if you don't like the books, fine, but no need to come in here and try to be "cool" and "anti-consumerism". Please whatever You don't see me going into threads about the shitty bands you like just so I can bash them, do you?

I'm all about this, as Hagrid is my adopted father. Its an easy match, as I'm 6'7", well over the measurement of most household scales, previously with long shaggy hair (oh, it will be back), and lover of all things animailian.

Like I said, I think it'll likely be someone we'll recognize, but not somebody we know very well. Like Sirius Black is mentioned in the first book, but he doesn't play a major role until he becomes the titular Prisoner of Azkaban two books later. The Half-Blood Prince will probably be in a similar vein. Maybe one of the foreign students from Book 4?

Sorry about the late post, if anyone notices. Been out taking care of other stuff and just got back to this thread again.

Eh, I don't mind the wait so much. The way I look at it, it'll just give me the time to go read the first five over again. Maybe a couple of times.

i've heard rumors of Dudley becoming more of a "magical" character.
I just dont see it though.
Then again Hagrid is a Half-Blood too.

What about the prophecy and Neville Longbottom. Is he a fuckin 'pureblood?'

I'm re-reading the first five for the second time this summer. I suppose I should stop that and try reading other books. But damnit I'm looking for clues now! wink

And I'm not getting the feeling that Hagrid is the Half-Blood Prince. But I also don't think it's Draco.

I just have no hypothesis yet confused

My bet is that the Half-Blood Prince will be the new Dark Arts teacher. Every book seems to focus on that character somehow. tongue
