Carl - Master's degree in engineering. Civilian employee for a military base for over 30 years, now a private consultant. Genius-level intelligence, but socially retarded. Divorced in 1982. Remarried also in 1982 (hmmmmmmm.....) Last contact was 6 years ago at my sister's wedding when I said "hello". Prior to that it was 10 years without contact. Lives 3 miles away.

Nancy - Left college to be a housewife. Divorced in 1982. Drives a school bus. Remarried in 1985. Smarter than me. Likes baseball & hot rods. Owns a '66 Malibu. Likes Johnny Cash. Makes a killer spaghetti & meatballs.

You look plenty like your Dad. He looks like a pretty smart guy, too.

Your mom sounds pretty punk rock to me. It's not often that you meet women who like baseball and classy rides....and are smart. smile

I wish I had pictures of my parents to post here, but I don't have any on me at present.

This is a great idea for a thread, by the way.

I know....it's a curse....to look exactly like the person I despise the most. smile

Myself, my father and my grandfather look eerily similar. There's a picture of the three of us that always freaks me out. It's me as an infant, my father and my grandfather all sitting next to each other. I am now the same age my father was in the picture...and he's the same age as my grandfather at that time.....and if you didn't know when the picture was taken...you'd swear it was yesterday.....save for the bad 70's clothes, of coursae. tongue

This is my dad:

He is a dancing fiend. He works as a salesman and can sell a down coat to a Texan in the middle of summer. He loves to tell stories and laugh. He is stubborn to an exponential degree. He is proud of his Polish heritage and often speaks it around the house. He's wicked cunning and was offered a job with the National Security Administration in D.C. when he was released from the Army, but he didn't take it, as he and Mum were about to get married and didn't want to raise a family in a large city.

This is my mum:

(They live in Gaylord and love the tourist clothing)

She loves to cook and bake and makes the best bread, pie, and jam in Michigan. She worked as a nurse's aid for years before she got sick. She did not work while we were children, as she wanted to make sure we were educated before starting school. She is warm and generous and gives the best hugs. She's Ojibwe Indian and Irish. She's extremely gullible. She will rent a movie ten times because she can never remember if she saw it already.

My parents have been married since August 1966. smile

These are my parents (the bald thing is me) pretending to be grown ups in about 1981. They got divorced in 1986 but are still friends. My Mother is my best friend in the world, she is an eternal teenager with a pierced nose and is very naughty, she is 50 in August but has men swarming over her, she bought me up without much help and is basically just so fucking cool.
My Dad and I get on really well although I haven't lived with him since I was 6 and he has always lived quite far away, he is an eternal bachelor who loves Guinness and reading, he spent the 80's working in the music industry and consuming wahey too much cocaine. He is apparently more sensible nowadays......apparently tongue

She and my dad got divorced a long time ago. They were both dignosed with cancer in 2003 (well, hers was at the end of 2002). She went into remission. He died. I don't have any photos of him scanned in. Maybe later I'll dig out the funniest old photo of dad during his Lonely Hearts Club Band phase.

Yes. It's pronounced Gay-lerd, not lord, and was named after some attorney. I think it means "Bavarian-themed tourist trap", since that's what it is.

I'd be more than happy to send you a t-shirt when I go up in August. smile

Never have any luck posting pics, so I'm not going to even bother, but let me tell you a bit about them.

Carmine: born and raised on a farm in southern Italy (with six sisters and one brother), my dad emigrated to Canada to marry my mom back in 1975. He has a very odd sense of humour, and enjoys teasing (in good fun) people just because he can. My dad is one of those silent types of people, but when he speaks his words often carry a ponderous weight to them. He has worked hard his whole life for my family, and it was from him that I learned to appreciate the value of a hard day's work. He has also instilled in me an interest in gardening and nature in general - we spend a lot of time watching Discovery, Animal Planet, and the National Geographic channel.

Rose: my mom was born in Canada to parents who emigrated from Italy in the late 1940's. She is the oldest of five sisters. She met my dad on a trip to Italy, and he, as mentioned above, came to Canada shortly after to marry her. It should also be noted that she is a cradle robber, as she is older than my dad by two years. tongue She introduced me to music and movies, and we are both Star Trek and Dune geeks (much to the confusion of my dad).

I am also fortunate that my parents didn't spoil me, as well teaching me to always be polite, courteous, and respectful to everybody - even people I don't like. They always encouraged my sister and I to do well in school, and we are the first two people on either side of our family to get a post-secondary education.

I guess to sum it up, I could say that my parents rock! smile

Ah but my mother lives up in cheyenne and she has been working as a RN for 10 years

My papa works for a company that makes water probes..I think I get my quiet side from my dad because we can sit in the same room for a hour and not say a damn thing to eachother.

My mom I get my wild side from..she loves to party, ride motorcycles..she went to sturges(sp?) a couple years ago and all that fun stuff..so there ya go!Picture

my parents entered a resturaunt throught the exit door the other day and didn't realise it until we were inside. This was after mom tried the door and it wouldn't open b/c it locks from that side. A nice person insided opened it for us and I realized i knew the chick that opened it. I promptly said "hi... These are my parents."

Kind of an unflattering story but it seemed to fit.

ok, Dad: Smart, healthy, beat the fuck out of cancer 3x, retired, energizer bunny (building a gazebo for mom at 65+yrs old)

Mom: the perfect stereotype for a lil southern housewife. 5', great cook, watches old movies, works puzzles, loves everyone.

I don't have any pics to post of my parents at the moment, but trust me when I say my dad looks like Sam Eliot and my mom looks like a shorter older version of me. My parents are the funniest, most caring and supportive people on the face of the earth.

Dad: Born in raised in my home town of Findlay Ohio. He is a fire captain and will be retiring this January after over 30 years of service. Most of my life he also ran a construction business with his brother. He can make anything you can imagine out of wood, and in my mind that makes him a genius. He's pretty quiet most of the time, but he's got a pretty silly sense of humor when he wants to.

Mom: My mom was born to be a mother; it's really all she's ever wanted. She's an RN and works as a school nurse at an elementary school. She calls the kids her "wee ones," and they adore her. Mom can be loud and vulgar or quiet and sweet depending on what mood she's in. My brother and I love to get her started laughing because once she starts, she doesn't stop until all of us have tears running down our faces.

My folks are the coolest.

My parents are from Vietnam (but they are Chinese). My mom was born in Saigon. I have no idea where my father was born, I need to talk to him about family history more.

My dad joined the US Navy (I think it was the Navy) in the Vietnam war, he traveled all over the place with the military. My mom was still in Vietnam at the time. Everything was getting destroyed. The mansion that my mom and her family lived in was bombed and my grandma knew she had to get my mom out of there.

My parents started out in the U.S. with nothing, along with the hundreds of their friends who immigrated to the US during war time. They worked odd jobs at gas stations, at a hot dog booth on the pier, wherever they could find work.

My Dad: Manager at an import/export company now, with people who mainly speak chinese...is english is still a little off. He's an amazing engineer. He can build electric toy boats, put my old car together from scraps, can build practically anything! Frugal, and saves like a mutha...he gets mad at me for buying expensive clothes.

My Mom: Has a Bachelor's degree from Univ. of Redlands, while she was still working...It might be a Masters...I went to the grad ceremony but I was too young to care or know the difference. She does home loans at a bank. She has always been in charge of my education and has always been on my back about school. She played the "bad cop" when my dad played "good cop" and I hated her for that. She worries me sometimes, I want her to be happy but her life is such a headache. I wish I could make it all better, straighten it out, clear the slate. *sigh*

this is my dad. when i was little he worked for an oil company and one day when i was 8 there was leak in a pipe underground and they sent him in the check it out. they didn't brace the dirt and it caved in on him and crushed his chest against the pipe. they medi-flighted him to the hospital, but he died from internal bleeding.

this is my mother and don't let the smile fool you because she is a hateful demeaning shrew. she used to tell my on a daily basis that i was ugly and an embarrassment to her and that she didn't want to be seen with me in public. when my dad died, i was given a trust in my name which she is now suing me for control of. (she also got a settlement which was twice as much as mine and she has already blown it.) she won't let me in her house unless i take out my facial piercings and she laughed at me when i misscarried my baby last august. i haven't spoken to her since sept. 12th of last year.
