"that creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are, once again, hard at work on yet a R-rated action-animated spoof entitled TEAM AMERICA. The premise according to the IMDB is: "Marionette superheroes fight to end terrorism and put tired celebrities out of their misery." Sweet. According to Variety, the film "...centers on a prototypical action hero who's drafted to help Team America thwart the world's evil forces." The film started shooting last month with a similar budget to SOUTH PARK, approximately $20M."

I've heard they are going to make it look as close to the old Thunderbirds TV show as possible. I can't wait.

They look and sound like the "Go-Lords" puppets from SNL a few years back. I think Robert Smigel (sp?) was the one behind that. He was also the voice of Triumph the insult comic dog. That would be a great mix with him and the southpark asshats.

Nah. My friend didn't like it. But once she had a few drinks in her later she was laughing while explaining it to her boyfriend.

It's not by any means a "good" movie, but it's good for a laugh if you can sit back and relax and let yourself be entertained. I can totally see how somebody could hate it, though, either by just disliking the concept or not being in the mood, etc. Adam and I ran out of Anchorman halfway through. What a terrible movie. We had it at my theatre for a while and it sold so many tickets and everyone loved it. I just don't know...

i like south park.... and i like the puppets, and i liked the concept... i thought it could be a really good movie. i guess i just had way higher hopes for it. i laughed like... two or three times during the whole thing. as a fan of south park that was just appalling to me!

Oh well. Can't like everything, right? Maybe you need Southpark 2? smile
I never saw Southpark: The Movie. I think TA:WP held the shock value/surprise Southpark would've offered had I seen it, then I might not have laughed so hard during Team.

Semi-related:
I think commercials/trailers/critic/screw screenings build up an unnecessary hype that can get us expecting too much from a movie. It sucks. frown I remember reading this book about the making of Star Wars and it said that 30 years ago "all movie-goers had to go on before the release of the show was the poster." It's too bad advertising couldn't revert back to that.

I couldn't stop laughing. Most of the audience didn't seem to get the movie, either.

haha, now THAT makes me laugh. 'not get the movie'? are you fucking kidding me? it was pretty obvious and low-brow. there was little to get. everyone in the audience was fucking howling and going 'WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YEEEAAHHH!' so obnoxiously after every joke.... my boyfriend was like 'at least it's interesting to know an entire room of people can be dumber than you.'

i wouldn't go so far as to say it blew, but... the novetly wore off. it was pretty funny... once. but i imagine if i see it again it'll be totally bland. i mean, sure, the satire stuff was kinda funny, but most of the jokes relied on the fact that the characters were puppets. once you got used to that, well... end of joke.

Yep. It sucked. It had a few funny moments, but for the most part it just didn't make me laugh.

i agree with you. it was genius for what it was supposed to be. i never expected this to be anything more than a political satire piece, and it wasn't. but it's the best i've seen in the genre. i loved it to death. don't worry about the smarter-than-thous. they filter everything through their elitism. *sigh*
