it seems no one gives a shit in post-production. I assume the same is true about MOST behind the camera jobs in hollywood

I've been at an architectural firm as front office/janitorial for a year. I'm sure my boss wouldn't find tatts/piercings kosher, if I had them. But I don't. But he wouldn't. And even if I did want them... delayed gratification. This job pays for school.

Once I decide whether or not I want to act at all, then I'll have to decide on ever getting anything permanent or likely visible.

Depending on the size/location/image and director/company/show/etc., a tat can seriously jeopardize getting a part.

I currently have six facial piercings, six ear piercings (including large gauge lobes), a tongue piercing, and two visible tattoos, one of considerable size. And I haven't really had much of a problem with jobs.

I've had the following positions with plenty of visible mods (and colorful hair):
Customer service rep
Dotcom production supervisor
Video game tester
Telemarketing
Exotic dancer
Library acquisitions

There are a few others I think, but there ya go. Everything from a librarian, to a stripper, to a production supervisor at a high profile internet company. biggrin

Fine arts/Museum work. Everyone that I work with just has the attitude that I have "body art" and therefore it is okay!

Every once in awhile someone will ask me a rude question, or make a comment, but I do my job well-and my bosses know that is what really matters.

I work in a bar and I fix my hair so that my rook piercing doesn't show. It's not just any bar, it's an 18th century reproduction of a tavern, so the only reason I can't have my rook piercing is because of authenticity. I'm sure if it was a regular bar, they wouldn't have a problem with it.

Bingo. Particularly if you get into the work through advisors or academic instructors who know you. If you're talented, most people won't care.

Well, it seems to me that the old "blue collar commitment" of having tattoos below the sleeves just isn't so anymore. My last insurance agent had tattoos down to his hands and the appraiser who came over to look at the house I'm renting right now had some pretty nice visible work too.

As for me, I work in a machine shop, so no one gives a rat's ass. As long as I don't get a tattoo that says "fuck the boss" I should be okay.

If you hide your piercings, as long as your tattoos don't say shit like I hate the U.S. you can get away with visible tattoos in the military.

I was actually seperated from the Marine Corps for a tattoo I got before basic. The book, "The Lexicon of Hate" that all branches of the military use as a guide to weed out potential bad seeds would seem to have one or two glaring inaccuracies. mad

this is why i worry about tattoos... i really want them but if it makes finding a job difficult after doing all my hard work on my degree then i dunno! but i really want them so im just meh at the mo

that's why shoulders are lovely... not too many professional jobs that require you to go sleevless, but you can still show them off in your free time....

No matter what it is you're doing with large visable tattoos and/or piercings, as sad as it is, be prepared to work ten times harder because there's an awful lot of prejudice out there for people with them.

Also, if you ever plan or have aspirations of working in a business / medical setting(it is kind of obvious but ...), don't get anything tattooed that can't cover up with clothing (hands, neck, face).
