“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” has finished rounding out its cast. AnnaSophia Robb (Violet), Jordan Fry (Mike Teavee), Julia Winter (Veruca) and Philip Wiegratz (Augustus) will play the young children. Director Tim Burton has also cast Freddie Highmore (Mists of Avalon) as Charlie and David Kelly (Waking Ned Divine) as Grandpa Joe. Johnny Depp, of course, will be playing the part of Mr. Wonka.

Danny Elfman, a frequent Tim Burton collaborator, will be scoring the film.

This is one movie that I'm anxiously awaiting. Well, this and Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong.

I met a guy at a wedding last week who is currently working on the sets at Pinewood (on the 007 stage which is ginormous). He says it's the best thing he's worked on (was last seen building the wodden horse for troy) and that the scale of it is amazing.

Can't wait.

and Danny Elfman...what a legend!

Since when did Burton's Batman suck?

But I do agree that re-making this movie is a waste. Why not remake movies that weren't very good. Maybe they can get it right a with a second try. Why remake classic, flawless movies?

Given how "dark" the original is, through subtlety, this version is going to rock so hard. I'm trusting Burton and Elfman to pick up on the subtlety.

And Depp... that man is a chameleon. He can play any part, and he excels under Burton's direction.

I'm stoked. biggrin

Here here. I have never once been let down by a Depp performance.

batman and planet of the apes are just movies but the weirdness of willy wonka is much more up tim burton's alley, i think he'd do great and after seeing depp in pirates and the secret window i think he'd make a perfect excentric cany manufacturer.

depp, burton and elfman really is the recipe for wonders. blush

While it was far from perfect, it did reinvent the campy Batman that the public was used to from the Adam West show. That is, until Joel Schumacher got his hands on the franchise.

Meh.....Tim Burton. Overrated. Depp, however, is fucking brilliance. Crispin Glover should have been Wonka, in my opinion.....

Overall I like Tim Burton's works, I thought his take on Batman brought the franchise back from the brink that the above mentioned campiness had taken it to.

Depp is a great actor.

Just... I don't know. Wonka was just one of my favorite movies as a kid, I just could not wait for it to come on TV and see it again and again (along with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Wizard of Oz). Much as I want to see a updated version I am a little worried over the outcome. We all shall see soon enough....

Look what happened when they wanted to update The Wizard of Oz... The Wiz anyone????

Forget Depp. Forget Glover. I'm convinced that Christopher Walken NEEDED to be Willie Wonka. Just imagine this line coming from his mouth - "Chahlie...you've won."

i dunno. i'm nervous as hell about this one. to me, there are just some movies and songs that shouldn't be touched. they shouldn't be remade, because they're just the way they should be. this is one of those. but...i'll see it, as i love burton and depp. but i'm still really fucking nervous about it.

I wonder how the strange and deeply confusing old people that lived in the same bed will be handled this time around. I could never get over those people, meaning of course that everytime I watch the film I can't help but shout "Seriously! Get the fuck out of bed! Is there an excuse good enough to warrant this kind of lifestyle other than this crowbar beating I'm about to paralyze you with?"

Why remake this? It's a perfect fucking movie. Ever the Orgy Grandparents Foursome.

Depp isn't half the comedian Wilder is. Plus, Wilder becomes his characters. Depp is still Depp. He's good, but the only time I've forgotten it's him is Fear and Loathing and Pirates. I wonder if he'll rip off Wilders fall when they first introduce Wonka. That was all Wilder. I'm not even sure Depp can bend that way.

A Burton. Oh god. If you go back and watch Batman, it's actually kinda shitty. His last two movies have been completely god awful.

This is going to be a disapoitment. You all know it will be.
