this is the best thing. they may say they hate you for a while but i'm sure they'll calm down when they realize that you won't become insane if you get a tattoo.

Why Bother to tell her...its not like she still bathes you...right?

But check your local laws to see if your old enough to get one without a parents blessing and dont use her money to pay for it.

SLAP!
I got a tattoo, beeitch!
or you could just hide it and hope she doesn't notice, or move all the way across the country. I chose the latter.

Yeah the whole living in the house thing is 90% of your problem. When you're on your own terms, your relationship with your parents change. My mom worried about my first piercings because it wasnt that common in the early 90's then her first comment to me and my brother's tattoos and ear gauging was..."but why so big?" Im glad to say that my mom got her first tattoo earlier this year from an artist that did my brother and girlfriend. She loves it. Believe it or not, parents grow and change as well. Point being. They will get over it.

Oh and yeah this was the one I used on my mom= Do you think badly of war veterans with big military tattoos on them? Most of my family including my grandfather had military tattoos. wink

I would leave a note on the kitchen table and leave and then already have plans to stay over at a friends house that night at least...or for the weekend. Then there will be time for her to break it to the step dad...unless he's the one that finds the note, and time or them to come to terms with it. haha.

I always just got mine and they delt with it. The beauty of being kicked out before graduation. bwahahaha

I came home, ripped off the bandage, and screamed, "Hey mom, look what I got!" She freaked out for a couple of minutes and then everything was fine.

Do what I did----wait till Thanksgiving and then just show it to her in front of everyone....there will be too many comments and commotion for her to get really mad, plus it's Thanksgiving....she can't stay mad for long. biggrin Dads on the other hand are a little trickier.....it's been 5 years since I had mine done and he STILL refuses to look at it....I tried showing him once and he flat out refused and told me that I wouldn't be very happy if I showed him....I just wanted him to see it and appreciate it but he won't! frown

i told my super conservative and strict parents and they thought i was joking. when i came over with it, they both got very upset and soon dropped the subject as if nothing. no big deal. don't hide it. remember that you lose trust when you keep things or lie(by omission or not). do it or don't do it, just tell them.

My mum always bitches about everything I do, be it friends, tattoos, work, relationships etc, so I'm well used to the fact that she's never going to approve of anything I do, but once it's done, she just sucks it up and lives with it . I still tell her what I'm doing, but it's pretty much a case of "You might as well get used to the idea, because it's going to happen..." With tattoos I always show her a pic of what I'm having done, and even if she hates the idea of a tattoo, she'll still say she likes the art. Of course, you may have a different relationship with your family, and a 'kiss my ass' attitude may not fly with them, so I'd suggest you just show her a pic of the art, and then say something like "I'm thinking of getting this as a tattoo..." You can then take it from there based on her reaction.

I talked to my parents about tattoos in a general way before ever getting one. They definitely discouraged me as best they could. I called them the night I had the first one done and told them about it. I asked my mom if she's rather hear about my tattoos as I had them done or see them without warning. She said she'd rather not be told.

When she first noticed the piece on my arm, I caught her repeatedly staring at it. I finally said, "Mom, isn't it beautiful?" She said, "All I know is it's scarring my baby." I couldn't help but laugh. She confesses to actually liking a couple of them at this point. I still don't think she'll be getting inked any time soon.

Oh, hey, that just gave me an idea. Buy your mom a gift certificate at the shop you'd like to go to. When she informs you you've lost your mind, tell her the certificate is unfortunately non-refundable. As you're such a good child and don't want to waste the money, you'll have to get a tattoo in her place.

If it backfires and mom gets the ink, she doesn't have any room to talk when you follow suit.
