So I finally signed up for Netflix the other day. We've been having a lot of fun adding movies to the queue, rating movies, checking out recommendations, etc. How many of you are members? Do you like the service? How many movies are in your queue? What are the next ten movies in your queue?

Me:
24 Hour Party People
The Exorcist: Restored Version
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Waiting for Guffman
Labyrinth
Ghost World
Charade
Chappelle's Show: Season 1: Disc 1
Chappelle's Show: Season 1: Disc 2
Whale Rider

I can already tell Rebecca and I are going to have fun adding movies and movies each others up and down on the queue when the other's not looking. wink

Yojimbo
Red
Throne of Blood
Sleepaway Camp
The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys
Jane Eyre
Coupling: Season 1
S.F.W.
Blood Simple
Y Tu Mama Tambien

However, I have a tendency to always rearrange my que right before they're about to send out my movies, so usually whatever is at around 100 on my list ends up around 1 pretty soon if I decide I want that one next. I think I'll never end up renting some of these.

Great service, though. Although it's taking the mail longer than usual to return the copy of Seven Samauri that I rented from them. frown

I love it. I had to let it lapse for a few months cause I was strapped for cash. You know if you let your account lapse they don't hound you about the DVDs you still have. At least, not within two or three months.

The West Wing: Season 1, Disc 1
Wilde
The Wild Bunch

Those're coming in this week.

61*
The Man with the Golden Arm
The Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Disc 2
Fox and His Friends
Fever Pitch
Citizen Kane
Roughnecks: The Pluto Campaign

I first signed up for NetFlix in Feb 2000, back when you could get 6 movies (4 regular, and 2 more after clicking "I mailed it"). Now you can only get 3, and for more money. Ack. They like to prey on the fact that I can't physically return a movie without watching it, even if I know I can just get it again later. So right now I have 8 at home, most still waiting to be watched.

By the way, for you Mac users, this app is great. It lets you do stuff you can't even do on the site. I wish there was an SG equivalent.

Ace I joined netflix in Jan 2000... it was because of people who did what you describe that they removed that feature.

i love netflix!!! and thanks for the link ace!

the only thing that's always bothered me is that they don't 'highlight' the new releases. So i always have to go to some other site to see what is coming out when and then manually search for the title on netflix. but i think they also don't want people to mob the new releases.. but shit that's the only dvd's i rent..

i used to have it worked out so i would watch the 3 movies over the weekend. and then mail them monday morning. netflix would get them tues which is the day the new stuff comes out, so i would always get the new stuff.. and have it home by wed or thurs at the latest. biggrin watch over the weekend, rinse, repeat.

it's a great service but you should see whatever movie you get that day in the mail
post haste inorder to get the most out of the service. expect a 2 day turnover rate

See I can't stand movies on TV. With the exception of TCM and Flix, most movies on TV aren't letterboxed. Lame. Also, even though I went through the trouble of getting my DirecTiVo hooked up for Dolby Digital, almost no movies out there have it unless you have HDTV. Lamer. Plus, no DVD extras. Lamest.

By the way, it's nicer when you have a distribution center in your area. You get movies next day unless it's an obscure release smile

My wife and I heard about netflix from a friend in DC who didn't care for any of the local rental spots. We've been members for a couple of years on the two at a time plan.

We learned to mix up the queue a bit when we had the Dear Hunter and some other heavy movie for at least a month. We wanted to see them both, but couldn't work up the energy. Sometimes I have no clue what's coming until it gets here, which keeps it interesting. The next ten are:

The Big Lebowski
Thirteen
Asunder
Wall Street
Secondhand Lions
Matchstick Men
Seabiscuit
Holes
The Virgin Suicides
Adaptation

My housemate and I do Netflix. The novelty's worn off a bit, but we still love getting new movies and we have 271 in our queue.

Existenz
Six-String Samurai
The Fog of War
The Last Temptation of Christ
The Princess and the Warrior
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Ocean's Eleven
Viva Las Vegas
Honeymoon in Vegas
Bugsy

A lot of Vegas ones in there because we're going there in a couple months.
