I don't think I have ever been as nervous talking to a comic book writer on the phone than when I booked this interview with James O'Barr. As we all know, O'Barr is the creator of The Crow comic book, which later became a movie starring Brandon Lee.

The Crow comic was a very important book for me. Not only was it one of the first independent comic books I ever read but it felt like it was my skull opened on the page. All the pain, anger and angst I felt as a young teenager was spitting out from...

I have adored the graphic novel The Crow for such a long time now. O' Barr is a wonderful artist with pen and ink. Hooray for this interview!

James is the coolest guy to work with.....really even-keeled person and one of the more clever sense of humors I've had the pleasure of meeting. Hardcore Crow fans should check out the stuff at Dragonfly www.dragonflyprod.us

no bobbleheads, no action figures just a lot of cool stuff based on James' original art, all done with his input (unlike the majority of stuff produced that he never sees until it's done)

It actually is quite upsetting that only 6 people cared enough to comment on this interview....

*lmao* Ha, hope I provided some cushioning on the fall down!

Yeah, that is just a *tad* upsetting that more people haven't commented on the genius that is James O'Barr.

But I guess most members here have had happy go lucky lives and are unable to identify with the character of a dead man seeking vengeance. Sad, really.

i guess i was the only one who thought he sounded really arrogant? when he was talking about the crow sequel and kill bill it basically sounded to m like he was saying tarintino stole the idea from him, then he added "good for him" seemed like an afterthought, disgruntled.

the crow was an amazing book, but the art was so incosistent, the writing was genius but the editing and layout were lacking too. i'm really interested to see the author's edition, but to be honest, i always saw o'barr as a one trick pony, like he had this big emotional book, got it all off his chest and really had nothing else worth saying.

its probably just me though.

O'Barr wasnt being arrogant at all with that statement. you totally misread him. Miramax released the Crow movie and now they released a movie with a "Bride" as the main killer. he was talking about the irony

I discovered this comic when I was a sophmore in High School (so 10 years ago?) It was amazingly awesome. I read it and reread it over and over again. My old voume's falling apart and marked with age. So I bought a second version and fell in love with it all over again.

i cant believe that this interview has so few comments this is and author who created a story for a movie that possibly half of the people on this site have listed in their fave films.

i have a collection of O'Barr crow artwork shirts and miss posters i had through highschool that got damaged in moving and its a story that i hold close to my heart as it was the first graphic novel i bought .. just before kitchen sink press went mikey up.. and i later got another copy when some other publiusher released it because its was something all my friends loved and many connected with .

thanks for such a great interview Daniel

Since I have first printings of all six issues (Yep there were six a prolouge was in Caliber presents, summer special) and I have met the man on more than one occasion I suppose I could comment. I still think the story is one of the most powerfull things out there even after 10+ years have gone by (how the drug dealer dies is intense). As far as the artwork some of the books were drawn and written two to three years apart, people change. The interview was awesome and I wish he would write something as moving as The Crow again. I don't think it's really in him to do this though and he has even hinted as much. The story stands as an incredible piece of work that really affects anyone who reads it.

One of the coolest birthday gifts a friend got me last year was an autographed 8" x 10" print of the art from The Crow's movie poster. O'barr signed it and drew a little halo around Brandon Lee's head in silver marker.
