It's no wonder. Did you buy your taste in movies from a fourteen-year-old?

Oh, oh, I'm writing that one in my livejournal.

I'll take a shot.

dirtyprettything and I love the Secretary. It's definitely one of our favorite movies, probably because we can relate to the characters in it very closely and because it hits the nail on the head with regard to several aspects of an S&M themed relationship.

For example, Maggie's character cuts or burns herself whenever she is upset - this is quite common for young women and very prevalent among girls into the S&M scene. Jame's character is bit anal and obsessive compulsive...a trait quite common among dominant men. The list goes on and on...but whoever wrote the script did his or her research - and a lot of it. The writer has an extremely good grasp of the subject matter.

The movie also treads a thin line between art and porn. For those people who into kinky behavior, they think to themselves: "WOW! Someone out there in main stream media actually understands us and actually pulled off an excellent portrayal of a dominant/submissive relationship." For those people who are not into it themselves, but perhaps a bit titillated by the idea of S&M, it is simply a well done, but twisted love story.

I liked it, in particular, because Maggie's character is portrayed as a strong woman, who at the end shows a fierce determination to achieve her goal of keeping her relationship with her boss. I'm sick and tired of hearing that girls who are into S&M must have been abused or are somehow weak or being taken advantage of in some way. It takes her sitting at a desk for hours and hours on end, facing friends, family and fiance, but she finally gets it through or at least tries to, that she WANTs this relationship with her boss out of her own accord and that it is her free choice to submit to him and that she enjoys it. Now thats hot.

Secretary is the only DVD I own. I love the movie and...I don't usually get this way about actors, but damn. James Spader. Damn! I even started watching The Practice because he's on it. He's awesome in it, by the way. Too bad there's no spanking. Yet. smile

StarsJuggler also said, in his profile:
FAVORITE FILMS: X-men 2, Matrix (not reloaded!) and the walking tank of the clones in the battle during EpisodeII of Starwars,Bad Boys (not 2nd), Signs

I was going more from your "Favourite Films" list. If these aren't truly indicative of your taste in movies, perhaps you should change them. If they are... yeah, I stand by what I said.

As for why everyone likes it, all that was said before. It's a well-crafted story, it's definitely different from mainstream, the acting is phenomenal, and it involves BDSM. There are other reasons, but those are the four that do it for me.

Dear Mr. Garvey;

I’m grateful to you for referring me to your case. The subject of animal captivity has been of interest to me for quite a while. My secretary has prepared research material that I think you will find illuminating................

thanks, now I got it clearer why everybody else likes it

themadking, I like Casablanca and b&w screwball american movies, but they are not my fave, that's why I didn't add them in my profile, they leave me with some kind of sadness, like for an era that is gone, and I wasn't in
