When I was seventeen I was introduced to a band called Rasputina by my best friend. This was in 1996, grunge was dead, and bands like Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails were becoming the voice of our nation's now supposedly miscreant youth. Rasputina had the same angst and aggression, pain and loss, dark humor and occasionally off-color subject matter of these bands--but they were three women, and they did it with cellos. I hadn't heard anything like it before or since. They played cello like...

HOLY SHIT!!! I was surfing the site and I saw Sarah's name and thought to myself...isn't that the girl I had Spanish class with? And then I thought, didn't my mom used to work with her at Pamida?...wow, who'd have thought that two people from Montevideo would be on SuicideGirls in an interview, and as fate would have it be seen by yet another person from Monte...I wonder if either of them remembers me...Sarah and Jewel were probably the two coolest girls I knew in school...those were the days...

Nice to see this interview, really caught my eye. I also "discovered' Rapustina back around 1996/1997 and really liked their music and presentation.

Wow, it rocks that Zoe Keating is a Burning Man regular... I've probably met/had a crush on her and didn't even know it.

Just saw them last night and they were fucking incredible! The new songs sounded great and they played a lot of stuff from 'How We Quit the Forest,' as well as the requisite covers. Melora's introductions were funny as hell too, covering every topic from tether ball to Stevie Nicks to Disney's California Adventure (the new Howard Hughes ride sounds fun as hell.) wink

I love Rasputina.
