not to be a hater, but I'd like to see Fred Phelps raped and then eaten by a roving pack of wild hyenas.

In a lot of ways, I think Fred Phelps has furthered the cause of gay rights as much as many others have. I'm not saying that to imply he's doing good work; I just think that he forces people to sort of examine their moral objections to homosexuality, and perhaps see they aren't as based in true Christianity as they thought.

Or, perhaps, most gay people just look really, really good in comparison to him.

On the other hand, some of the buttless leather chaps wearing folks are doing more to hinder gay rights than Fred Phelps.

Humans are ridiculous...

I just love how people pretend to believe in something so strongly when they don't even have the slightest idea of what they're talking about....

I just loves the good wonderful people...

and the ones that hate and try to hurt the good people.... meh...

well... I'll gladly bludgeon their heads again and again with blunt objects till they stop kicking to save just one sincere decent human.

...this really has little to do with religion. the guy hates fags and the bible is his weapon of choice.

shellfish is also an abomination, but i haven't heard of anyone proposing a constitutional amendment to ban Red Lobster.

heck, they probably organized their protest over plates of pork bbq...

this is just good old fashioned hate...

Now you've heard. surreal

I know a priest who occasionally changes the parable of the good samaritan to the parable of the good homosexual when giving a sermon. He does this especially when preaching to more conservative congregations. The reason he makes the change is because that parable is often misinterpreted to mean "be like the samaritan who saves the injured man" i.e. help others in need. By changing "samaritan" to "homosexual" the priest makes the original meaning clear, which is "love even those you are taught to hate." Samaritans were outcasts in Jesus' time, but that fact is not apparent to us now. By changing "samaritan" to "homosexual", this priest makes the true moral of the story obvious to contemporary audiences. Be like the injured man and love those you are taught to hate, because you never know when they could save your life.

Jesus also hung out with shepherds, were considered sinners by the rest of society because they had a tendancy to steal when there was no other option in feeding their families. A lot different than the wrathful judgment Jesus in that new "Left Behind" book. I haven't read it, but the synopsis I saw on "60 minutes" pretty much has Jesus racking up a death count bigger than Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin and every movie monster combined. I wonder which Jesus is the Jesus that Fred worships?

If Phelps and his people were wiped off the face of the earth right now, I wouldn't feel a fucking thing except some happiness.

They picketed Matt Shepard's funeral. HIS FUNERAL.

I would have killed them if I were there. Bleeding heart liberal, against the death penalty person that I am, I would have killed them.

God doesn't hate us queers, Fred. God hates YOU for your bigotry.

Sadly, you'd just martyr them, fulfilling a part of their fucked up hate fetish. It's best just to wait and let them drink the Kool-Aid. (anyone here old enough to get that one?)

I remember when I found godhatesfags.com.

They post pictures of their protests. There was one shot of two little kids - probably about twelve - playing under a sign that said "FAGS BURN IN HELL".

I cried all night.

funny note: my friends owned "godhatesbaptists.com" for awhile because of that site wink

the Phelps gang has been doing this for a long long while. They are truly the worst bunch of ignorant assholes I have ever had the displeasure of running into.

I've seen all kinds of hatred in my life time but Phelps and his congregation actually make me want to cry, not only because they are so hateful, but also because their obstinance to admit that they are hateful is just enough to grind any rational person down. Really they are no different than any group of neo-nazis. Its all hate with a different face.

Wow! I'm speechless and extremely disheartened. When I first saw the title of this thread I avoided it because in most forums the topic is like religion. Both sides are stuck on their views so why bother. But then I sat back and remembered that I was here on the SG website and felt able to enter the thread.Let us all thank god that many people are not this way and that there are still many good people among us.But it doesn't surprise me that we have members of our society that think this way.Why?.....because I watch the news ,read newspapers, and check current events out on the web and daily we have hatred, ignorance, and dishonesty running rampid in our media, literature and even subliminally all over the place. One day I will be rich enough to buy an island and invite like-minded pople to have the option to buy a parcel of the land as long as they contribute to our small society in a positive way.Oh we can dream!

So it is the same "church" that picketed his funeral. At least there's only one group with those kind of scruples.

Well, one group in this particular Area..God also apparently hates America too, because we allow women to do what they please and we promote the fair and equal treatment of all creeds. Man what assholes, I cannot believe I am an American...I mean...tolerance? God Hates Tolerance!

You know what I say? God Hates Hate..I wish I could find that bumper sticker...it's mildly funny, Irony is so incredibly effective.

Ain't nothing wrong with the bible. I like the bible. I like The book of acts just as much as I like the Rig Veda or The brothers Karamazov.

And I don't hate these thumpers, they just believe something different than I, lets just say a very OPEN person, do.

My point is, the only way anyone will ever change the minds of these people is not by more hate.
