Recent events in my life have made me realize how horribly difficult it is for some people to just say what they mean and get on with life. Where does the motivation come from to make you want to lie outright to someone's face when you KNOW you will be proven a fuckhead later? Is anyone else experiencing this on a regular basis or is it simply the possibility that I know a bunch of assholes?

You just know a bunch of assholes.

Immaturity springs to mind... like the five-year-old who breaks a lamp and insists that his invisible friend did it...

I'm not sure. I'm always honest, even if it means hurting someone, so it's hard to relate to dishonest people.

Like Shalome says, it stems from immaturity. I used to tell little lies all the time, and then I realized it was making my life more difficult and causing people to distrust me. (Fucking duh). I stopped acting like a child around the age of 24, but some people aren't so lucky.

I have a friend who tells "white lies" compulsively. I've been at her house for hours and her mom calls to say 'hi' and she says "Oh we just got in." Stuff like that.

Unfortunatly it's gotten to the point you cant completely rely on her word for anything because she tells you what she thinks you want to hear. She is pretty smart otherwise so I will ask her opinion and then think it through to edit out the stuff I doubt or cant verify.

Nobody tells the truth all the time. Do you tell little Timmy that his cat is road pizza or that Fluffy moved away?
