You people do realize that the Andy Sakai tattoo story is a running joke, right?

If he'd really done this he would have been shanked a long time ago.

Kabbala, the new exciting fun filled way to be Jewish without all those pesky rules and persecution!!!! Impress all your hollywood friends while keeping that forskin!!!!!

Never mind it states in its rules that you have to be a married 40 plus orthodox jewish male to study it!!!

From what I understand a good half of it is a sex guide.

Actually, it is a serious religious endevour. The tree of life. The map to Everything. From The Crown to the base, The way by which man may become unto God.

THIRD IMPACT HAS BEGONE!!!

I can't believe this thread has made it to three pages and I'm still the only one to notice that the article comes from a British tabloid on the level of the US's National Enquirer. People, I'm almost positive this story is not real.

Seriously guys. There was a story in Cosmo LAST YEAR about the kanji tattoo Britney got on her hip that *oops* was not what she expected it to be. No one makes this kind of mistake twice (or even once? sources better than Cosmo or tabloid websites?!!!). I am always amazed at peoples willingness to immediatly believe something they read on a friggin website.

madonna and britney as kabbalists... this is less funny than sad. having heard both their music, i can fairly confidently say that neither of them know what the hell they're talking about.

People are changing the rules every day. There was a time when women weren't allowed to vote, and now we're running for Preesident. I think maybe religion needs to update it's own "policies" or it's going to find its masses slowly dwindling.

Not to say that this is what you were necessarily saying, but that's something I never get about people and religion. To me, it would seem that it is what it is. The Word of G-d is the Word of G-d, and no amount of thinking God is wrong or wanting God to be wrong will make Him wrong. Now maybe you think that people have interpreted The Word (or whatever variant such a person subscribes to) wrongly for the last N centuries, like Martin Luther King or Calvin and Hobbes or the Morons did. Yeah, that's fine, I get that.

But to ask a religion to grow or change with the times, as if what G-d considered immoral a thousand years ago isn't immoral now? That's akin to saying "Well, man's learned to fly, gravity ought to just give up now." What's an "abomination before the Lord" is just that, forever. If you wanted to say "Such and such a church has had ulterior motives in enacting policies in the name of this religion and their teachings are thus very inconsistent (i.e. choosing to honor some parts of Leviticus and not others) and they ought to fix that in light of today's society" I'll accept that. But if G-d doesn't want you buried with tattoo's or piercings or without all your body parts and He doesn't want you to divorce or whatnot... I can't stomach saying that the church should change its teachings based on today's standards in society.

Jebus, that was rambly. And me the existentialist.

yeah, but one of the things about the Lord is that the severity of punishment definitely changes. like how we were supposed to stone people when they committed adultery, and then jesus came and was all "hey, easy with the stonin'!"

and in another crazy part of leviticus if you cussed you had to sacrifice two pigeons. if you didn't have two pigeons you got the priest to do it for you and you owed him two pigeons.

Well it's God's prerogative to change His mind or alter His divine law if he's somehow attempting to guide humanity in a certain direction. Maybe he said at the beginning, "If man's obeying value (x) < 10, then if adultery then run STONING. If x > 10 then run SonOfGod and if adultery then severe tongue lashing"

Can you tell I learned Basic seven years ago and never used it again?

I just saw Rumsfeld say that he thinks there's a difference between abuse and torture. Yeah, at least with torture, you have some sort of gain. Abuse is just for the fun of it.

yeah, since we started this thread, she left Kabbalah, had applied for Scientology but was turn down, got (as Kimsu_tatu said) a new tatoo on her butt, got pregnant by Justin Timberlake, but decide on monday she felt more like getting a new car so told Justin it was all a joke, bought herself Mariah Carey's old appartment, is demanding the swedish nationality and takes on a cursus called "learn a new tongue in one week, this week is madonna's"
