So, I am about 3/4ths of the way through American Psycho. For those of you who havent read it, the character is exaclty the same as in the movie.
And I want to be Patrick Bateman, I want to have his power, his money, his looks. His abilty to take an axe and chop the fucking face off someone who irks him.

I want that

is that a BAD thing?

Since Patrick Bateman is a fictional character, yes. Be happy with what you have- if you acted like that in real life, you'd be in jail by now.

His taste seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way.

No one is familiar with the "...more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way" line?

What? No one else memorized that film? wink

But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.

Christ, that movie is hilarious. biggrin

Bret Easton Ellis people, christ. And the yes, the book IS better than the movie. Much better. And much less palatable. Which is half the point.

I finished it but I thought it was crap; the story was pretty much a pamphlet and the book was the pamphlet plus 250 pages of filler. "Tom was wearing a blue worsted Brooks Brothers suit and Hermes tie..." blah blah, blah blah, blah blah.

Being a grammar/spelling nazi aside, let me reply to this.

If you think the character is EXACTLY like the one in the movie you have horrible reading skills. The book version is way more... disturbing I suppose. His in depth thoughts are tame in the movie, as opposed to what he thinks/says in the book.

I like both, but saying the character is exactly the same is like saying everyone who's ever told the story of Peter Pan told it exactly the same.

THE BOOK WAS A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN THE MOVIE.
the movie didnt capture the satire.

so i was wondering while i was reading the book:
why does he like all this shit music but also like the talking heads?

can we say "psycho killer, qu'est-ce que ce?"

To say the Book and the movie are similar is blasphemy.

The book is about a bajillion times better. (As usual).
Not to mention a bajillion times gorier.

The movie pales in comparison.
