While many artists put their blood, sweat and tears into their work, Dutch artist Joanneke Meester has actually used her own skin.

Dutch artist Joanneke Meester has put more than her personal feelings into her latest piece to protest at rising violence in society – she used her own skin to make a tiny gun.

A surgeon friend scraped a 20 centimetre section of skin from Meester's abdomen under local anaesthetic to provide the raw materials for the work of art. Meester then used the skin to cover plastic bars to make a three-by-six centimetre pistol.

The "skin gun" will be featured at the Kunstvlaai art fair in Amsterdam in early May.

I think it's a real problem for the art world in that the only artists you ever read about now are these artists making gross, stupid works like this. puke

there is a gun piece up here right now too. the art world is going GUN CRAZY!

speaking of sculpture made from the artist body:
im also a fan of the guy who cast his head in his own blood. man... whats his name?... oh yeah marc quinn
haha
The work, which is a life size cast of the artist's head, is made out of in nine pints of his own frozen, congealed blood.

Rock on with the art. Some people find find art in gothic novels to be "gross". It's all a manner of how much an artist is willing to put out about their art. i would love to see this though.

Isn't she the same artist who does self-imposed plastic surgery just to make a statement on personal beauty?
Oh, never mind! I just looked it up on google. Here's that weird article!Artist's plastic surgeries defy beauty

I am an artist myself, but these ladies are going a little too far!! surreal eeek

I don't know about the artist themselves going to far. But what about these doctors??? I mean I guess these people will do anything for money. With any surgery there's always risk for infection. I think that it's crazy that a doctor would do that.
