actually, more specifically, weird bumps in my armpits thread!! every so often i get big, very sore bumps in my armpits. like, a little bigger than marbles. they hurt like hell. and they dont go away for a few days, then come back in a few weeks. it's kinda odd. anyone have any ideas? i'm sure sg really isn't the best place for health advice, but eh. this is where i am. and i love you all so much! heehee.

Sounds like swollen lymph nodes. See your doctor.

When we were at Disneyland, my sister revealed an armpit zit with a pus-filled head the size of a pencil eraser. My parents felt obligated to squeeze it. It oozed out slowly and, according to my sister's face, painfully.

i second clara - it sounds like your immune system if fighting something. the area under the armpits is a site of major immune defence; the lymph system dumps plasma back into the subclavian veins, so the body has a border here to screen for things unwanted in the blood. definitely check with a doctor.

on a tangential note, the lymph nodes are the "ring of rosies" from the nursery school rhyme:

ring, a ring of rosies
pocket full of posies
ashes, ashes
we all fall down

bubonic plague caused the lymph nodes in the armpits to swell and become a deep purple-red colour.

It's amazing what Disneyland will bring out in people.

I always heard that rhyme as "ring AROUND a rosie."

yeah, i always used to sing it "ring around the rosie." given that this little ditty may be over 600 years old (Black Death 1347-1352ish, i think), it is remarkably well preserved. must have scared the collective hell out of us as a culture-and/or-species to make such a big impression.
