Support the animal rescues and animal shelters before you support pet stores.
Please!?

There are 4 main Ferret breeders in the US. I don't know their names off the top of my head, but they decent and spay/neuter all ferrets before leaving the facility.
That way if one gets out, or someone throws it out, then they can't reproduce and make super smelly ferrets that run around and cause places to enact laws calling them wild animals.
If you buy a ferret from PetCo or PetsMart they come from one of two ferret breeders. Through the breeder the ferrets are all guaranteed for 12 months. This way, if someone decides the ferret is not the pet for them, then the ferret goes back to the breeder, and NOT to a shelter. It's a fail safe to get a ferret back and place it in a good home, in case someone changes their mind.
Why do people go out and buy animals and then want to return them? I'm not sure, and I wish people got screened before purchase.
10 years ago when I got my dog, he cost $10 at the humane society, 9 months ago when I got my cat she cost $90 at the humane society. They told me that prices go up for rent, and to stress the responsibility of the animal.
But it's probably better that way, if cats and ferrets cost only $10, I would probably have 3 of each.
Ferret's are the evil henchmen of the Anti-christ!
My last motorcycle accident was caused by a 6' tall ferret cage flying out of the back of a pickup truck! (No ferrets were harmed - cage empty). When we emptied the cage to put it in the truck, one of them gave me that evil ferret "I'm going to get your tall, pink ass" look! I think he used Ferret telepathy to launch the cage at me!
Shame I can't hold a grudge against the cute, fuzzy little fuckers. I'd have a bunch if my wife wasn't allergic.

what about that ferret smell ya know? i've always wanted one, but i'm afraid of the smell, i know you can get thier scent glands removed but that strikes me as a bit cruel, just so i can't smell that ferrety smell.
which i don't mind personally, but others might?
any advice.
Well, she has a distinct odor, but if you get them from the pet store they'll have already been descented and spayed/neutered. We tried to find one outside of a Pet Store setting, with no luck, but we probably would have had one descented anyway. No matter what, they're going to have a *little bit* of a ferrety musky smell, though. I personally don't feel descenting them is any more cruel than spaying/neutering.

I can't believe they still allow descenting in America! You guys should seriously think about your choice of pets if you want something you wish to have physically altered by surgery just to enjoy! Shame on you!
