So, I have this brother. Last night my boyfriend and I did him a favor, bought him and his friends alcohol.

Thing is, this brother of mine, he doesn't like beer, and my boyfriend can't get over it.

I don't like the taste of beer, but for some reason my vagina is a scapegoat & I've never had to explain myself for it.

What I'm wondering is- why is liking/disliking beer a gender-stereotype? I've known girls that love it, but more often than not the females I've come in contact with can't stand the stuff.

Also- why can't my brother buck up and "be a man"? whatever

it depends did you get him and his friends wine collers or something?
as for me personally i dont like beer but i'll drink it if some else buys. but i perfer jack and coke. as for yor boyfriend not getting over your brothers dislike for beer he may have grown up in a family where it was tradional for a man to come home after work and have a beer, instead of alchol so he was influnced from childhood by this sterotype. where as your parents probably never drank around you or your brother. so your brother never learned this trait

beer can be an acquired taste, take Guinness as an example some people love it and most can not stand it. I remember when I first started drinking that I did not like the taste of many drinks although after experimenting I found beers that I really do enjoy drinking. I guess the key is having a open mind and realizing that not all beer tastes awful.

For some people it's just genetic. Theres a chemical called 6-n-propylthiouracil (PROP to its friends) in beer that some people find tasteless, others find slightly bitter, and others find so bitter it makes them want to vomit. Needless to say, people who are more sensitive to PROP won't enjoy beer as much.

I only know one girl who likes beer. Me and her rock High Life nights every so often, rocking out to Seger, you know how we do. Most girls want to get drunk. Thats it. It's not the slow burn that guys go through with beer, the build up. Girls want shots. They want tequilla. They don't like the actually drinking, they just want to be fucked up. And that's bullshit.

At least that's how it is here.

For me in high school, college and early twenties it was all beer beer beer but I got to tell you that now beer is down there on my list of options; makes you feel all bloated and full plus unless you're at a good pub it's often hard to find a good selection. I'll take vodka or scotch thanks.

I love beer.

Guinness is my all time fave. But I really like the local micro-brews from my area.

I also like tequila, whiskey, and scotch. I'm also a recover(ing) alcoholic. Booze is my buddy.

I'm not a big beer fan. I can drink a bit but I'll get sick of it after a couple bottles.

I see some sort of gender-stereotype with it. I don't like beer at all, I usually drink soco and coke or a midori sour. No one really cares because I am a girl. Funny thing is I have a guy friend who drinks beer mostly, but does like the occassional midori sour or Skyy blue and he will always have me order it. He definitely gets the vibe that it is not manly to drink that kind of stuff.

Guinness has one of the lowest percentages of alcohol out there.

It's a beer for lightweights.

Flame away.

I dont like beer much either, but Ive found that there is a slight differnce in taste depending on how you drink it, like I cant stand more than a half a beer in a bottle or can, but put it in a plastic cup and I can take big enough gulps and not taste it as much. Grafh are you serious about that PROP thing?

Hmm....all the girls I know (or most of them) are beer drinkers, as am I.

Of course, it helps if you are drinking good beer, rather than forties of Olde English, though I'll drink that too...

maybe you should stop drinking that cheap shit beer and buy a good beer. cheapshit beer is cheap and crappy tasting. buy something nice like a newcastle or some local or minibrew. or go to a brewery. beer is great, but the stuff that comes in a can is ass.
