Anyone else use these bad boys? Soooo much better than P2P servers and programs, I think. I've gotten into so much new music because of it.

Bit Torrent is P2P. The whole concept of peer to peer networking is there are no servers, Bit Torrent is just another popular protocol using the swarm downloading concept, similar to eDonkey, Overnet, etc. It's good if you need to transfer large files without bogging down a server, especially if it's a popular file, which gives it a legitimate use for businesses. I don't use it much however, EasyNews and iTunes give me all I need in that department.

Its not bad, but the way they MAKE me share uploading when I only have a 50 gig limit really eats into my download allotment.

it seems like a good idea but the shite seems slow, eats bandwidth and takes forever compared to using, say limewire.

I mean, if you did that kind of thing.

Then you're not using the right trackers. I routinely get 500+ kbps downloads on my torrents. And yeah, naturally it eats bandwidth, but so will any p2p program that gives you download rates that high.

For TV Shows, Suprnova, and for new (and sometimes old) music, Ugly@ss indie Tracker. The last one is basically a bunch of college radio station employees (like myself) with access to pre-releases and rarities, all with super-fat university bandwidth. Downloads on this tracker are frequently above 500kbps, and only increase as your share ratio improves. So set your max_uploads high, leave your windows open long after download, and you'll be in great shape.

bittorrents are great. they are actually useful unlike the kazaa lite stuff which is only used to download pirated files and full of spyware and viruses whatever

if you have a 200mb file , say a half life 2 tech demo which is sure to get 3 million + downloads in the first 24 hours , no server can handle that but with bittorrent you cut the load between many computers and it goes way faster.
