I need something good to read. Hopefully something in paperback to keep the cost down. Nothing in the style of Jane Austin either. I can't stant those kind of books. Other than that, anything goes.

I might be able to help but I would need a little more to go on other than not Jane Austin.

well, there is THE Good Book. Or, if you want a tome about your native Kansas, check out Prairy Erth by William Least-Heat-Moon. Political? Nothing's better than A Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn (or is it Ziff?) Get away from it all by reading a travel book. It's the next best thing to being there.

It is kind of academic, but you might like "A Brave, New World" by Aldous Huxley. Also, if you have read the LOTR trilogy, you should read the prequel, called "The Hobbit," if you haven't already. :-)

Novel - Kissing in Manhattan by David Schickler. Fantastic read.

Nonfiction - Six Degrees by Duncan Watts. It's a mathematical/sociological look at the "six degrees of separation" theory. It looks at how it could actually be proven in real life, and proposes how it may be. I had the pleasure of taking Prof Watts' class on the subject in college, a little before the book was published. Rest assured, it does not require complex math skills - he explains everything very simply and it really is downright fascinating.
